Sonic Appears In SEGA Hard Girls Anime
A Japanese anime specifically targeting SEGA fans has had a familiar face play a significant role in the show. Episode six and seven of the anime SEGA Hard Girls had Sonic the Hedgehog himself make a notable cameo in the show. So much so that he literally became the driving force in the plot of episode seven and helped save the day more than any other SEGA character that had appeared in the show before him.
SEGA Hard Girls, or Hi☆sCoool! SeHa Girls as it is known in Japan, is an anime starring three female anthropomorphized SEGA consoles. The trio, Mega Drive, Saturn, and Dreamcast, enrol in SeHaGaga Academy at Tokyo’s Haneda Ōtorii station where their teacher assigns them to enter SEGA games. By completing certain objectives in those games they earn medals. When they collect one hundred of them they can graduate. The series is heavily influenced by SEGA as a whole. No stone is left unturned. Fanservice is off the charts in every episode. The more of a SEGA fan you are the more you’ll get the jokes.
In episode six the girls travel into the arcade game Border Break and are about to complete their mission when the game world is hacked by none other than Dr. Eggman. All seems lost until the only one powerful enough to stop him arrives: Sonic. The entirety of episode seven focuses on Sonic and Eggman’s battle with the girls tagging along for the ride. There are plenty of Sonic fanservice in the process and the battle goes so out of control that the girls even find themselves going into Sonic’s past games! You can check out the series over at Crunchyroll.
As of this article’s writing episode seven has gone up only within the past few hours.

Cute, hope to see the rest! 😀
Hard Girls.
That is so wrong in many ways.
………………………………………………………………….I would question why we don’t get nice things like this, but I already know the answer…
No, I still question it. Because Sonic, even for the roller coaster of a series it is in terms of quality, is regardless the LEAST popular over there in Japan. He’s way more popular in North America, and, if I recall, he’s most popular in Europe.
There is no excuse for this.
Just saw the latest episode, really enjoyed it. A shame they didn’t give Sonic and Eggman voices though; I really like the Japanese Sonic cast. The sad thing is, this was probably the most interesting thing Sonic has done in 3 years.
Right next to Sonic becoming a Smash Bros. veteran, the Sonic/MegaMan crossover comic and getting a new show but I agree with you nothing really “cool” has happened to Sonic in a long time besides those 3
I honestly don’t consider any of those things to be that interesting. Sonic Boom’s pretty meh, I don’t read Archie Sonic, but Sonic in Smash is cool, I guess.
It does have something unique about it doesn’t it? I wonder… … … … … … … …
Hopefully US will air English dub of SEGA Hard Girls on Adult Swim (Cartoon Network) in the future.
I would be watching that anime if it were in 2d.
Wow. This is some cheap CG. I mean, this is, like PS2 era stuff right here. There must not be a lot of money or faith going into this show XD
Maybe it was intentional? I know some shows have intentionally primitive art styles if it adds to the art style (like this one episode of Space Dandy where it looks like it jumped straight out of a Miyazaki movie).
Actually, it’s because the whole show is animated in MikuMikuDance using pre-existing models, with the exception of the original characters. It’s not even close to being top-of-the-line where CG animation programs are concerned.
MMD is freeware from 2008 originally made by a single person, to clarify. It’s been used for short televised anime since last year, apparently, but its original intention is for making anime-style dance videos to post to the internet (it’s primed for animation and not much else). You CAN get MUCH better lighting/shading out of it than they’re getting for SeHa Girls, though, and it’s perfectly possible to get high-poly models (example – Carry Me Off music video featuring a popular Miku Append model: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGG7tUMg77A). The SeHa Girls quality/style looks quite a bit like the models that were prepackaged with MMD to begin with, but higher-poly and with better collision detection. Sonic and Eggman’s models look the same.
If this is a comment about the environments though, the characters literally jump into the original game, so the graphics of the games and the game characters are supposed to match their original graphics. That part’s definitely intentional.
It looks like those horrible neptuna games they keep dumping on us.
And yet I find this show infinitely more entertaining than Sonic Boom.
You may have expected this from me, but if they had a dub, I’d watch it.
Unfortunately, it probably won’t be dubbed. Only popular anime get dubbed. Something as niche as this will probably end up flying under the radar. A shame, really, it’s actually a quite charming show.
“That bald bastard”,that line got me also neat.
Meh, looks more like a well made MMD animation than an actual anime. I do think I heard “Super Sonic Racing” at the “To be continued” part, so that’s pretty cool.
Still not as good as Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.
It’s not meant to compete with Jojo in any sense. It’s just a silly 11 minute series about humanized game consoles trying to graduate High School by going into the world of various Sega games. It’s a completely different genre. You can’t compare the two.
I wanna watch more of this show because the premise is so goofy, but it’s so goddamn UGLY!
oh….great…another anime made in Poser…so much for RWBY having the most original look in a modern anime. Oh well. The design for sonic was spot on. Guess I need to start watching this. Kinda makes me wish they finished World War Blue
This is quite an ugly show lol. I dunno about the writing or anything but as far as visuals go….yikes xD Is that purposeful?
Hmmm….Sonic in anime again? I liked the OVA, the CD intro/outro and the Riders opening…but Sonic X was putrid for many, many reasons… one of those reasons being that it was a produced as a “child’s” anime in and outside of Japan rather than a general audience type deal like One Piece. I would actually love to see a fully fledged Sonic Shounen actually…something along the lines of “Yu Yu Hakusho” or “HunterXHunter”. Maybe even “Full Metal Alchemist”, “Magi”, “UQHolder” or even “A Certain Magical Index” as well.
Anime seems to consistently nail the balance between comedy action, emotion and everything in between such as character development and the logic of it’s own universe. Of course we have exceptions like Naruto but that certainly is NOT how most Shounen is. I think if the original Triumvirate of Sonic returned (Naota Oshima, Yuji Naka and Shiro Maekawa) along with a really talented writer like Yoshihirio Togashi or Hiromu Arakawa, Sonic would be fixed in no time!
Side Note: Wanna know why World War Blue was so bad? It was written by a Russian Japanophile…what you would otherwise refer to as a “weaboo”
A shame really…the show could have been pretty sick if it had someone with talent writing it.
Sadly, something of that quality will probably never grace the Sonic franchise. It’s like the series is cursed or something.
And the system eats my comment yet again…,someone please pull it from the Void. Thanks
Lol people always hate on sonic because despite what they think he still popular lmao haters
