Sega Enquires About NiGHTS Re-Release on Facebook
Today would have been the perfect day for Sega to surprise its fans and re-release NiGHTS to current consoles.
But many fans will gladly take Sega’s inquiry to fans instead on the viability of doing such a thing. It happened within the past hour on Facebook.
“To our wonderful NiGHTS fans – we haven’t forgotten that today is the 15th anniversary of NiGHTS, so happy 15th anniversary to NiGHTS and huge thank you! to everyone for supporting the character and game for all these years!” the statement began, complementing a photo of the protagonist.
“How would you feel about seeing the original “NiGHTS into dreams…” being re-released? Also, if you think this is a good idea… which platform do you think NiGHTS should be released in? We’d love to hear your thoughts!”
Already, as of this article’s publication, the post has received close to 500 “likes,” along with more than 350 formal feedback comments from Sega Facebook fans.
NiGHTS has seen re-release before, in Japan. A copy of the game, bundled with Christmas NiGHTS, was remade and released to the Playstation 2 three years ago. It included 16×9 support. If Sega indeed does have plans for a remake, that sort of release would be welcomed by fans, but there’s no way to tell if that’s what is up Sega’s sleeve.
The bottom line: The plot thickens.
Wii please. 🙂
I want the game for wii too,but I have to say that Nights is not forgotten.Rodea is basically Nights reborn,kinda like Doctor Who’s regenerations.
For all consoles obviously.
But SEGA will remake Nights and not port SA2 to PSN and XBLA? I am disapoiment.
@SA3 2011
You just can’t help but mention Adventure all the time, can you?
@Stephan
His name IS SA3 2011.
Nice, but SEGA should make a new Nights game rather than a re-release.
Also, When is the next news update for Sonic?
@SonicGo!
Well, yeah. Should’ve expected it.
@Stephan and Sonic Go
Yes I cant help but my Nick doesnt mean anything.
I like Nights and you guys are going offtopic. You want to start flamewar?
@Stephan? Nintendo? That’s NO good. . . XD Genesis does what Nintendon’t 😀
@SA32011 No.
@BrandonTH …Wha? XD
How about Nintendo 3DS.
*runs*
OHHH, now I know why Brandon said that now. What the hell’s wrong with NiGHTS being ported to a Nintendo console? 🙁
3DS eShop.
@BrandonTH – I believe the phrase is “Sega does what Nintendon’t”
3DS eShop would be cool in my opinion. The analogue stick would be perfect for NiGHTS gameplay (just like the 3D Saturn pad that you could buy in a pack with the game) and the environments could look even more beautiful in 3D!
I hope it doesn’t come out only on Wii, I’d like to see it on a real video game console this time.
Nintendo is INFINITELY more successful than SEGA…I wouldn’t really say that SEGA does what Nintendon’t, unless you’re talking about releasing a bunch of mediocre games…
-points at Mario Galaxy, then at Sonic 06-
Which platform? Dreamcast 2, obviously.
@HyperMetal I belive he was refering to an old Megadrive commercial.
Want that way?
*points at Mario is Missing!, then at Sonic Colors*
By the way, Sega doesnt only make Sonic games…
Did Hotel Mario even hurt Mario’s rep at all?
@Stephan I belive not, because Mario fans dont complain about anything, seriously if Sonic had Sonic Sports Mix, Sonic Party or anything like that the fans would all suicide
@HyperMetal – Nintendo is not more successful than SEGA. 4 out of 5 people would say that Sonic is much better/cooler than Mario.
@Tmsp – I like you idea, but if you want to show people a good Sonic game, Sonic Colors would not be a good example unless your aiming at little kids. I’d say:
“Points at Super Mario Galaxy, points at Sonic Generations (We could just tell this game would be great)” 😀
I would say points at SA2, but I use that WAY too often 🙂
@HyperMetal:
Nice, but that’s completely irrelevant to this topic, which is about NiGHTS.
Back on topic, I wouldn’t mind a XBLA port of its remake myself.
@Sonic52789
Who the hell were the four people you were talking to? And Sonic Generations didn’t even come out yet, so how do you even know it’s gonna be as great as Galaxy, a game that has a 97% scre average? But since you have “Sonic” as part of your name, I should expect it.
And Adventure 2 has AGED.
@Stephan Well, a poll that my class did last year to almoust all the school for a “free theme poll job” was “Who do you like more? Mario or Sonic?” and Sonic won with 83% of votes.
I’d like both that and the sequel in HD on PS3. The wii controllers (and the voices) ruined the 2nd game.
This could be reality…ever see it running in full, true 1080p?
PS3, 360, PS2, and Wii. And, depending on when it’s released, PSV. Possibly 3DS.
@KnucklesChaotix
Isn’t the PS2 dead, or is it still going?
Make it Arcade~
I’d love to download and play that game <3
NO CONSOLE WARS! Lets relase it on WiiU, X360, PS3, PSVita and 3DS. Everyone is happy.
^This.
SMH. I can’t believe the majority of this Sonic fan base is still playing Wii. Get with the times already. What on earth are you people even playing on that system these days? Seems to me PS2 still has better games coming out.
I wouldn’t mind an updated version being put out. With sharper graphics and special features or something. (A total graphical overhaul would be even better.) I never got a chance to play the original, so I’d definitely love to try it out.
Failing that, a direct port to XBLA or PSN wouldn’t be so bad, as long as the cost wasn’t too high.
I hope they think about releasing it to the Wii U so sega can get envolved with the launch, but all consoles would be fine, just don’t forgett about us Nintendo dudes sega, 😉
Aslo NiGHTS on the 3DS would be awesome too with the 3D visuals. Man I hope it comes out because I have no reason to buy a Sega Saturn or a Japanese Inported PS2 except to play Nights into Dreams.
@Sonic52789 & Tmsp95
Popularity does not equal success. If it did, Sega would still be making consoles not Nintendo. Consumers and publishers willing to put down money on product equals success. You could be the coolest guy on the planet, but you still wouldn’t be as successful as Trump.
@Tmsp95
“points at Mario is Missing!, then at Sonic Colors”
Way to compare a game to another game over 10 years it’s senior. A Wii game is better than a NES game? NO SHIT!
@sonic52789
Only an idiot (or teh hardcorez) would simply disregard a completely fine game as a kid’s game. Colors was good, period.
@Ee
While I kinda disagree since I was able to complete most of the game and A rank most of the missions with just Wiimote, the small ass bounding box was eventually really annoying, but why don’t you just play with the Nunchuck, Classic or Gamecube controllers? Do you just not like the feel of Nintendo controllers? Also, I liked the voices, Will’s was forgettable (and Helen had to grow on me), but I loved everyone else.
Oh yeah Nights…..Didnt they replace Sonic with Nights for the Saturn? How did that turn out again?
@Skai Cyan – look, all I’m saying is that sonic colors seemed more like a Mario game than a sonic game. It might have been good, but sonic had better games.
@Stephan – Oh, and SA2 hasn’t AGED. I don’t know what ur talking about. If sa2 has aged like you said, then how come fans all over the Internet are begging for a sequel?
@Skai Cyan – Oh, and Sonic Colors IS a LITTLE KIDS GAME. Period. SEGA said themselves. If you don’t believe me and want proof, here’s the article:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/102785-Sonic-Colors-Not-Meant-For-Core-Audience
You could just read the first paragraph for proof.
@Sonic52789
Because they think any game that has Adventure slapped on the title will be good. And it has aged, I don’t want to play the game after realizing all the glitches and voice acting it has.
@Stephan – Well your just about the ONLY person I know who doesn’t like the Adventure series. Take a look at these pages and tell me otherwise:
http://www.tssznews.com/2010/10/27/iizuka-speaks-of-sonic-adventure-3-sort-of/
(read comments in video)
There’s also a page with over 500 comments on the blogs. But the blogs are under maintenance.
To be honest, you seem more like a Mario fan than a Sonic fan.
Also, for the LAST TIME, the Adventure series hasn’t aged. Like I said before, if it has aged than people all over the internet wouldn’t be demanding a sequel. Just like how the Classic games never aged, after Sonic 3 came out fans wanted Sonic 4, and it finally came.
@Stephan – Glitches? Voice acting? pht. Nice excuses >_>SA2 may have some glitches but you can’t really get them unless you really try to get a glitch, and the voice acting was the best in the entire series even though it was Japan dubbed.
Sonic 4 came out and it didn’t deliver as much as people wanted it to, so what makes you think “Adventure 3” will deliver as much as you want it to? Just because people demand a sequel to Adventure 2 DOESN’T mean it hasn’t aged. It just means they want a sequel.
And I played Adventure 2 and played Colors afterwards, and the voice acting HAS improved. The only reason why you probably hate the game is because the critics say the problems that were in the games with Adventure gameplay were IMPROVED in Colors. The Homing Attack won’t screw you over, the voice acting has isn’t as annoying, the camera is NEAR FLAWLESS, the controls are better and tighter, AND there was actual speed. The only reason I can see people preferring the Adventure games over Colors is solely because of NOSTALGIA. I don’t find those games as great as they were BACK IN THE DAY, but I’ll pick them up just because of nostalgia.
And I don’t want to play another Adventure game if I’m being forced to play a mech shooter or go treasure hunting to finish the game when the MAIN character’s main gameplay is the only thing I want.
And even though I love Sonic more than Mario in 2D, I’m more of a Mario fan than a Sonic fan when it comes to the 3D games. The plots of each of the main installements are SO predictable, but I’d rather have a simple plot in Galaxy than have an overwrought one in Sonic 2006. I’d rather have a choice between two characters that have NO major differences than playing as five other characters whose game play is TOTALLY different than the main character’s gameplay. And I’d rather put up with a main villain that has the same battle three times in one console game than put up with a main villain that has been overshadowed for more than ten years in a console game and keeps making repetitive one-liners. I’d rather put up with annoying “Yahoo!!!”s in 64 to this day than the voice acting in Adventure or Adventure 2. I’d rather have boss fights that were actually frustrating than boss fights that are piss easy. AND I’d rather put up with fans that barely complain after the game is released than put up with fans that BITCH about the small things in a game MONTHS BEFORE the game is released.
Also, since YOU keep bringing up “Adventure 3” into a topic, it seems pretty obvious that you would try to defend Adventure 2 as if there were NO problems with it and think there’s no other Sonic game that could possible beat it. Newsflash: If a game like Adventure 2 has a Metacritic score of 89%, IT CAN BE TOPPED.
Why not just make it multiplatform. I can’t stand playing on the Wii, so I want it on PS3 or 360, but preferably PS3.
So yeah do it like this…
Wii = Downgraded graphics and different controls
PS3 and 360 = Better graphics and more Saturn-ish controls, because it’s a gamepad.
3DS = Well… I can see it sort of working, but it’s not gonna happen. SEGA are remaking it, not remaking the entire controls and stuff. They’re not gonna just be like, “Ok we’ll make nights run on the stylus” ‘cos that requires extra programming.
Also, SEGA’s newest projects are coming to the XBLA. Radiant Silvergun and Guardian Heroes Remakes, so that’s most likely where NiGHTS Re-Mastered will end up.
Finally, Mario’s no better than Sonic. Super Mario Galaxy 2 was just a cash in. At-least SEGA’s not been making Sonic 06 2 or Sonic Colours 2, because it gets stale after one game, and SMG2 was really stale for my tastes. I miss Sunshine…
