First 4 Sonic IDW Issues Sell A Combined Total Of 63,050 Copies

1. Are these the combined sales numbers for all the variant cover versions for each of these issues? If that is what these are, then these numbers represent a “collector’s high” (so to speak) for IDW. For those that don’t know what I mean, my understanding is that collectors like to buy the first issue, or first issues in the case of IDW Sonic, in all of their variant forms. This drives the sales figures higher at the beginning of a series. Only time will tell where the monthly sales will rest once the collector mania goes away, and the series has to support itself on the fans alone.

   By the way, I take it these numbers are from Comichron. It would be a good idea to site your resource in the article. Also, you forgot to mention that this is for the month of April.

   1. This only includes physical copies of the A & B covers shipped by Diamond. It does not include retailer incentives, retailer exclusives, or digital copies. So this is a low number if anything

2. I wasn’t expecting a sharp drop from the first issue. I was expecting something more gradual. I need to see 5 more issues to make a more accurate guess. Archie’s only manged 5000 – 6000 monthly. I expected the new IDW comic to come out swinging because its Sonic and he kinda famous but more than likely my expectation is 4000 – 5000 monthly with IDW. The writing of the Archie’s comics has never been good but it had a lot of baggage to keep people around. This seems to be following the same formula without the baggage.

3. Yeah this series really is taking off fast (pun intended), but the real test is going to be how well it’ll be selling a year from now. As TSSZ said on twitter, if it can keep its 13,000+ monthly than I see this new series lasting a while. Hell, I think if it can hold on to 9,000+ a month by this time next year I would call it a success.

4. I already expected this to be IDW’s best selling comic, hope this puts the concerns of IDW’s financial problems to rest in regards to the Sonic comics.

5. Maybe we can get a healthy supply again, instead of going crazy and going to far-off comic shops each week.

6. I draw indie comics for fun and man… I never knew how many comics at the bottom of the list sell. those numbers are rough.

7. Was honestly hoping for better sales. I want sonic to be in the top one hundred.

   1. It was 85th in dollars aka issues sold * cover price. That is quite respectable.

8. I can’t believe it sold less than Exiles…
