Tamaki: “No Sonic Game At E3”
Unseen64 staffer Tamaki is at it again.
You may recall just a few days ago that he put up a video filled with research and stuff we didn’t already know about Rise of Lyric’s development. One thing that Tamaki is also known for: finding out about the plans of developers and any potential games, features, DLC, et cetera before they are announced. In particular, E3 is approaching and now is the time he gets tipped off as to what will be showcased or announced there. If he hears no news, we’re getting no news.
In the case of Sonic it sounds like E3 will not see the attendance of the Blue Blur:
He also went on to say that he hasn’t heard anything about a new Mario & Sonic title either but things are a little more iffy in that regard.
Keep in mind of the wording here: there was nothing that said no Sonic game will come this year. Just that one wouldn’t be announced at E3. Tamaki makes this clear too:
The odds are significantly lower but with SEGA previously saying they’re making their gaming announcements after E3 there’s still room for speculation. Even with E3 it is not out of the question for a shocker. Again Tamaki makes that clear:
As for the reasoning behind this article, in case there’s some confusion out there, this is the first rumor article I’ve personally written. It is only a rumor because of no official word from SEGA or Sonic Team. However with the identity of the source and their info out in the public, especially a source that has already shown accuracy in what they know, I figured it was worthy of an article. Take this for what you will but this kind of news would make sense with SEGA’s stance on E3 this year.

I’m honestly glad. Sonic needs to slow down on his releases, because pumping out some sort of new Sonic game yearly hasn’t seemed to be the best for quality.
Quality is the most important thing but you don’t have to be so glad there isn’t a yearly Sonic game made from completely different developers when Sonic Team has already had at least a couple years of work on whatever it’s going to be. Even if you’re certain it needs more time there’s no harm in hoping for a reveal, as though that will somehow doom the end product. If Sega’s idea now is to forget Rise of Lyric then give us a sneak peak at Sonic Team’s work to get our minds on it instead.
I wholeheartedly disagree. They’ve been slowing down releases like crazy in recent times, and not only are we barely getting any Sonic action, but we’re also getting trashy games. Boom was a mess on Wii U, Lost World was better but still not very good, and Sonic 4 Episode 2 was an hour-long experience… Albeit we did get Generations, but I really think we need more spinoffs and stand-alone handheld releases like we used to get with the Rush series on DS.
Whine all you want about “more releases means less quality”, but Dimps develops the handheld games, Backbone did Rivals, other companies did Riders and Sonic Team did multi-platform games with the cooperation of other companies, so it’s a pretty invalid argument. Yes, there’s a quality problem, but it’s not primarily the fault of Sonic’s large release schedule.
Finally, now there would be bigger Sonic game in next year. I want SEGA and Sonic Team working hard this new main Sonic game in 2016 very fast plus Sonic movie would be announced very soon by SEGA and Sony.
Or there could be new Sonic game announced at Tokyo Game Show or Gamescom 2015?
Why should we believe this? Isn’t the point of E3 to surprise people with new announcements? Just because Sega won’t be there, doesn’t mean we won’t get the chance of a quick glimpse at an upcoming game of Sonic. Maybe Sega trusted Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft to include a few gameplay bits during their compilation trailers of what games we should expect in the next few years. Just because Sega won’t be there to give a breakdown, doesn’t mean there won’t be anything new. Plus, most workers for Sega can get in trouble for even hinting at a new Sonic game, without permission of the makers/company, so he probably kept it hidden for now.
“Why should we believe this?”
Because the guy has proven time and time again that he can be a trusted source for info. And, again, he does say that nothing’s set in stone and that there’s still a surprise that can happen.
If it was MS or Sony, we’d/he’d know already, those guys are terrible at keeping secrets. Even Nintendo’s secrets get out these day though.
“Why should we believe this?”
Did you even read the article or just choose to comment first?
Everyone says that is good Sonic will miss 2015.
I say, we will all laughs when in 2016 Sonic Team will release another crappy game…
That arguably hasn’t happened in eight years. Remember – Sonic Boom wasn’t made by Sonic Team.
So all we get this year is iOS games and another shitty crossover?
Yaaaayyy….
“shitty crossover”
You are sure that we read the same crossover ?
He means Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for Wii U and 3DS.
Except that hasn’t even been confirmed, let alone likely exist (tepid reviews and sales of Sochi 2014 seems to have put a stop to the Mario & Sonic series).
RobotHobo64’s likely referring to the Archie Megaman/Sonic When Worlds Collide crossover (largely disagree with him though).
You have to wait until E3 Nintendo Direct 2015 will be announcing new Mario & Sonic game very soon…
I kinda saw that coming and, as much as I want a new Sonic game, I’m glad Sonic is taking a year off. That way, SEGA and Sonic Team can take their time to work on Sonic 25th birthday game which I’m certain will come out next year (I just hope it will be as good as Generations was).
We don’t need a new game every year, SEGA. I’d much rather have a good game every once in a while than a rushed game every year.
“I just hope it will be as good as Generations was”
Sigh………I don’t get this fanbase. Why just “as good as Generations” ?
Who the hell wants another hollow, forgettable nostalgia ride with no contents ? Stop treating that fucking game as a God sent gift, because it wasn’t that good at all.
Why can’t anybody aim for something MUCH bigger, for once ?
Finally!
Normally ift would be fair to expect something better.
But with this Sonic team and Iizuka around, I don’t think we can have much more than some average sonic game with no content and offensive kindergarden story.
Generation is this sense was a miracle (it’s still an average game with no ambition).
Yeah, I have to agree. Generations was seriously overpriced at launch. $50 for a 2 hour nostalgia cash grab game? Really Sega? The game didn’t even have much replay value. The game was super easy too on top of that.
Just accept that you are one of the few people who doesn’t like Sonic Generations. It will make sense then. While the problems with the game are indeed real, I think most people were willing to look over them for the sake of Sonic’s 20th anniversary. The game just being playable was good enough for some people and I don’t blame them. I experienced Sonic Generations through the 3DS version so the console version always at least looked better in my eyes.
If Generations doesn’t satisfy you, literally nothing will.
That game is literally the embodiment of a company listening to their fans and giving them exactly what they want.
If you aren’t satisfied with Generations, don’t expect to be satisfied with another Sonic game, ever.
I just can’t even understand this.
I think what people are mostly talking about is “an entirely original game in the style of Generations”, as in “a game controlling the same, featuring similar leveldesign and similar presentation”.
I don’t think I want that for the level design either, because that would mean it would be a short game with little replay value, since it takes a loooooooooong time to produce all that stage geometry for a 2-5 minute boost stage. That was Generations’ biggest problem, imo; the game cost full retail price for a game with only about 2-3 hours of content for the story, and only an extra couple hours of content in the form of those missions and Red Star Ring collecting. It’s why Sonic Team scrapped the boost in the first place. In terms of art style, I’d love for them to go back to that, but Sonic Team currently has a boner for Plastic, Mario-inspired worlds.
Boost didn’t need to be scrapped, it just needed to be nerfed. Like the way The sonic adventure generations mod did it. It’s a perfectly fit and usable mechanic, just needs twerking. The stages need to be designed to not rely on the boost as heavily or not at all. If it was me id make every stage have a no boost mission(s). That way tails or knuckles, who do not have boost, can still be accounted for in stage designs and layout.
Sonic started fading from sega interst after sonic unleashed
and started to get lower and lower on budget sincre then
Perhaps Sega pulled the plug that why boom team were fired. Its sega fault because they dont have clear direction like they did in the past and low budget OK Games like colors boom lost world and perhaps generation were not replayable and lacked contents and proprete advertising compared to unleased 360ps3.
Did that dude really trash generations? Wow.
Where?
Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, if that counts
