Shenmue 3 Kickstarter Breaks $4 Million After PS4 Physical Reward Reveal
With two weeks to go until the Shenmue III Kickstarter’s conclusion, the campaign received a much needed jolt today when a $60 tier reward was revealed, promising backers at that level the choice of a physical copy on PlayStation 4.
“This is one of the most requested items on the list, and we are very happy to be able to include the Shenmue 3 PS4 Kickstarter Backer’s Edition as a Reward,” said the update on the KS page. “If you are a Shenmue fan and PS4 gamer, this is the reward to have to commemorate the occasion!”
It’s not the only reward introduced today. A pledge of $1,500 means your photo goes into one of the game’s areas. A $4,000 backing guarantees your face during a game of Lucky Hit. A $10,000 reward promising you as a NPC character in-game to do battle with Ryo is almost gone.
That’s just the tip of Shenmue related material that has surfaced this week. Though the PS4 reward has jolted the total raised to over $4 million, this week’s developments include the confirmation of Ryo VA Corey Marshall on board the project to reprise his role, a series of interviews with Shenmue series alum and, interestingly enough, an apology from organizers Awesome Japan over the stir caused by last week’s Twitch chat:
We offer our sincerest apologies for last week’s Twitch broadcast and any trouble it may have caused. This apology comes late, and we accept full responsibility. We promise we will do everything we can to help bring Shenmue back. We ask for your forgiveness and the opportunity to make amends. – from all of us at Awesome Japan

Well, Game Sack is happy.
I don’t own a PS4 really like to see a Xbox one version in physical form before I back.
Xbox One isn’t going to happen. At least not initially, maybe never.
If you really wanted to back the game, why not get the PC version? The game will come out in late 2017 or early 2018. More than enough time to upgrade your PC till then if necessary. Shenmue 3 probably won’t push any hardware requirement boundaries.
Then how is the game going to profit or have the full scale it deserves? Making people assume its PS4 exclusives is one of the reasons why the campaign is underperforming and failing to reach adequate stretch goals.
I don’t know how Tristan can spin $4 million as good. Suzuki needs 10 million and that’s just not happening in less than 2 weeks. If he adds other platforms as rewards, he would get to at least $8 million.
Making it PS4 exclusive to game that won’t be out for 3 years is just asking for a niche flop. Let alone a game with only 50,000 backers
