Report: Sonic Lost World Sales Jump Above 400K Before Christmas
The week of Christmas appears to have been a good for Sonic Lost World, as the independent sales analysis site VGChartz estimates it’s that week that pushed Sonic Lost World well over 400,000 estimated sold overall.
Though the website does not offer week-by-week estimates past 10 weeks, the overall number has been updated to show about 420,000 copies of the game are estimated sold. The 3DS version makes up the meat of the sales, with a hair under an estimated quarter million copies sold. The Wii U version, however, is not far behind, with just under 180,000 estimated sold.
The numbers are considered estimated through December 28th. That means while there is an outside shot of Lost World cracking half a million copies sold unofficially for the year, there isn’t much time left for that to happen. With this in mind, we are comfortable estimating that Sega Sammy will, in its quarterly earnings report next month, offer shipment figures–not necessarily sales–in the 600,000 range.
As meh as I find the game, I’m glad that it’s doing kinda okay. It’s not the game’s fault that it’s so meh, but for what it is, it’s…okay….Aside from the BS story….
I’m the opposite. I was hoping that the poor initial sales would send a strong message to Sega and cause them to rethink their currently charted course for the series. Getting such a huge sales boost from the holiday shopping season makes this game seem better and more well-received than it probably is or has any right to be.
210,000~600,000 SLOW’s sales range..
3Q results is Doom for Sonic
First main Sonic title to not break a million…I wouldn’t be surprised to see the next game be more like Generations, but maybe with less emphasis on the boost.
what makes you think it won’t break a million?
It is selling at such a slow rate that it either won’t break a million or it will take years to do so. By then it will have had one or two price cuts and won’t even be profitable for Sega anymore. If Lost World brings in less money than Sonic 06 and that game was a flop, what does that make Lost World? I didn’t dislike Lost World, but I would rather see regular Sonic games like Generations be made from now on.
Glad to hear that the sales for the game are starting to get better. I really enjoyed this game and play it every once and a while on my wii u. The yoshi’s island DLC is good but I hope the next DLC is much better.
Well lets see how this goes first…. http://fav.me/d2qhzb3 What I said before. XD
Abysmal sales overall, but especially for the Wii U version. No more Nintendo exclusive deals, SEGA! Hurry up and abandon that system.
or they could get their shit together, make a good game and try to help the system
…or they could abandon it. Not like SEGA has ever been smart when it comes to business, anyway. They’re right up there with CAPCOM in terms of stupidity.
I still fail to see how Lost World’s exclusivity to Nintendo was the problem. The issue isn’t that it’s on Wii U, the problem is that it’s not a good game.
How many times do I have to tell you to shut the hell up before you actually listen to me?! SHUT THE F**K UP, WE’RE SICK AND TIRED OF IT!!!!!
Here’s a really good guideline for we know who should follow =D

I’ll have to dissagree on the whole “Thou shalt not have any Dimps” seeing as how Dimps can make amazing games, it’s just that they want to contsantly stick with making shit versions of the console games. Have them make a Rush 3DS from the ground up with no connection to a main console game and expand on what made the first 2 Sonic Rush games great, and I guarantte you that people won’t be thinking of Dimps so harshly.
The fact is that Dimps is mediocre when it comes to Sonic and has proven they have cared to bother about quality level design LESS AND LESS as the years go by.
What more proof does anybody need than than:
– All of Sonic 4
– Sonic Generations 3DS version
– Sonic Lost World 3DS version
– Sonic Colors DS version
I mean really, there’s stubborn, and then there’s flat out blind. Yes, blind, that’s an appropriate phrase for the fanbase.
Generations 2. Make it happen.
These sales are still not good. Even with the holiday shopping, it didn’t make half a million. I doubt that this game will sell more than a million. Maybe it’ll get close, but who cares if it does? Sega should stop trying to settle for selling the bare minimum. They need to try to get ambitious again and try to really SELL Sonic, like they did before.
And yes, I know that the console/mascot war of the 90s is over, but the 90s and early 2000s was when Sega had passion. Their rivalry with Nintendo and other companies motivated them to actually TRY. Maybe they don’t need to be rivals again, but they need SOMETHING to get them motivated, because clearly, buddying-up with Nintendo is not helping them whatsoever.
What they need to do is stop pussy footing around and not only be fucking about with the bare minimum, but the fact they’re releasing a Sonic game every single year.
People are growing sick of the fucking games.
Wow, here I was thinking at first that the Wii U version had sold only 400,000, then I realized this number was including the 3DS version as well. That’s pathetic, however on the upside, Nintendo likely paid SEGA millions of dollars to have the games as exclusive, so there’s no way that the game ended up in the negative. Other than negative criticism it received, of course.
Please for the love of fuck keep the sales number low.
For ONCE we need to tell SEGA the fanbase and the franchise deserves more than the bare god damn minimum.
Because they haven’t listened to anything else for years.
