Metallic Madness Speedy 16 Day 1 Results and Analysis

Today marked the first step on the road to the Final Zone, as the first four Metallic Madness teams in our Speedy 16 face off. Here is where the brackets stand as of this morning.

You can see there were few surprises from the more than 400 votes cast on Twitter. Here are some highlights:

Another Monumental Match In the Works: Modern Sonic already took down Classic Sonic. Now the evolved hedgehog will have to take on his own Super form in the Little Planet division title this weekend. A ninth seed, Modern Sonic has surprised so far, acting as spoiler for every opponent he’s faced so far–including his younger self. Are those green eyes set on the Final Zone?

Living on the Edge: Shadow has emerged as a clear favorite in the Chaotix division. His most recent victory against sixth seed Rouge is the perfect appetizer for the weekend’s match against fifth seed Knuckles. The echidna isn’t chuckling at the magnitude of this bout. He’s already served as an upset to Eggman Nega in the second round, and would love to pack a punch to the Ultimate Life Form–and send him packing until next year. But Knuckles also had the closest match of anyone on Thursday. Can he shape up in the Emerald 8?

We Can Do It!: Just as we said every female left in the tournament won their matches on Sunday, both women competing today lose. Though Rouge and Blaze are out, at least one lady will make it to the Emerald 8. The winner of Bunnie vs. Nicole will ensure at least that much girl power. The big question–can Sally Acorn, who’s only squeaked by her first two opponents as the top seed in the Mobius division, also advance?

Still Not a Real Competition: If you’ve called your bookie to place a bet on who will emerge victorious, you may have a problem. Might we suggest the gambling hotline?
