Fan Fridays: Speedy1236
To the best of my knowledge, we’ve never featured any fan fiction before, so we’re taking care of that this week with a sprawling narrative by German writer Speedy1236. The work is called Mirror’s Edge, but fear not – it has nothing to do with EA’s free-running series. Instead, it currently exists as an eighteen-chapter epic best described with Speedy‘s own summary:
Secret GUN material and the Master Emerald get stolen by – a blue hedgehog? Sonic thinks proving his innocence is trouble… until he gets caught in a cunning trap of an old foe. With Sonic lost and on his own, Tails suddenly turned a target and Knuckles over his head in between his duty and his friends, can the trio see through the scheme in time to save each other… and the world?
Having first seen the light of day nearly two years ago, the story was most recently updated last month, and at over 60,000 words, there’s certainly a lot of it. English actually isn’t the writer’s first language, but going purely by the story’s prose, you wouldn’t know it; aside from the odd clumsy sentence or grammatical hiccup, it reads fairly well, all things considered. He also makes an effort throughout to keep the characters true to their canonical behaviors, with reasonable drama and character development throughout. If you’re into this sort of thing, I’d say it’s worth a look.
You can read the first chapter of Mirror’s Edge here; that page has links to the rest of the story as well as more of Speedy1236‘s writing. We thanks shdowhunt60 for bringing the story to our attention. As always, we’re on the lookout for fan works to spotlight, so if you have a project you want the world to know about, send us a link at fansonfriday@tssznews.com!
