Sony Touts 2.1 Million PS4s Sold to Date
Early this morning, Sony issued a press release claiming the new PlayStation 4 console had cracked the 2.1 million sold mark as of Sunday.
Sony’s releases divides the numbers between 1.4 million sold in North America since the mid-November launch, and 700,000 in Europe, Australia and the rest of the world where applicable. A launch in Japan and Asia for the PS4 is still pending.
Said SCE CEO Andrew House on the PlayStation Blog about the accomplishment:
It’s an impressive and record-setting accomplishment for our company and for our industry, and we couldn’t have done it without you. I want to personally thank PlayStation fans, both old and new, for your vote of confidence. The best part: the PS4 journey has just begun. In addition to an incredible lineup of PS4 games from the best developers in the world, we will continue to introduce valuable new features and services to PS4 in the months and years ahead.
Microsoft has yet to respond with their own figures, but given how successful the XBOX One launch was on both sides of the Atlantic, it looks to be a dogfight right through the Holiday shopping season.
As soon as I read the title I immediately thought of the party scene from Wreck it Ralph where Fix it Felix was on the dance floor partying while everyone calls out “Fix it Felix! Woot Woot”
I dunno why my mind just went there, that’s kinda what I picture Sony must be doing right now.
The CEO of Microsoft as Wreck it Ralph about to nervously crash the party. Everyone at the party panics when they find out he wants in on the party.
Man, I wanna go watch that film again!
“I’ll bet that’s Mario. Fashionably late as always.”
That is as ironic and prophetic as it comes.
Actually if you want to compare that scene to a company it would be the Wii U barging in.
But the wii-u came first… <:(
Remind me why this is posted on a Sonic news site?
Because, good sir, Sonic is a videogame series, which is played on various videogame consoles. The health of said consoles is important to the health of Sonic.
Can’t wait to see what greatness SEGA will make for the new hardware. We know that Ishin will be on PS4, which they’ll hopefully localize. If they do, I’ll get a PS4 on the same day that comes out.
I read the system’s launch broke many records. The PS4 and Xbox One combined with the 3DS this year really shows that people are still excited about consoles and they are buying them, which disproves those analysts who say console gaming is dying is being replaced by mobile.
