Sonic Movie Writers Sell Original Project to Universal Pictures
The success of the Sonic movie continues to trickle down to some of its core staff. Writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller, the primary writers behind the film, now with nearly $300 million in ticket sales globally, will now focus on a new, original project.
Their pitch, titled Violent Night, has been sold to Universal Pictures. According to Deadline, it’s a lucrative acquisition for the duo worth at least six figures. The film is said to be a thriller set during Christmas. The film currently has Deadpool 2‘s David Leitch attached to produce.
Violent Night will be just the second major film for Casey and Miller–after the Sonic movie.
It’s unclear how the sale will affect any availability for any possible Sonic movie sequel which, contrary to some chatter, is still not confirmed to be in the works–though current box office returns suggest it’s all but a lock.
