Sonic Movie: Paul Rudd “Being Eyed” For A Lead Role, Movie Budget $90,000,000
It was only a matter of time. We’re finally beginning to hear about the Sonic movie’s cast. And now we know the budget it has to work with:
Paul Rudd is being eyed for the lead human role of Tom a cop who befriends Sonic and will likely team up to takedown the evil Robotnik.
The plot is currently being kept under wraps. The live-action/CGI hybrid film is expected to begin shooting this summer in Vancouver, with a budget of $90 million.
Jeff Fowler will make his directorial debut on the film from a script by Patrick Casey and Josh Miller (Transylmania, 12 Deadly Days). Deadpool helmer Tim Miller is on board as a producer.

You know, I don’t want this movie to suck. I really don’t.
But with each passing new info, I fell worse and worse about it.
If you want to do a Sonic movie, Sonic defeating Eggman is one thing you should get right. It’s not “Sonic defeats Eggman while a police officer helps him out.”
Imagine how ludicrous it would look if Iron Man had an cop next to him while fighting the Iron Monger, saving Iron Man in the nick of time and providing useful info on how to kill him and both of them delivering the final blow. Imagine how that would play out.
The only way this could work is if Paul Rudd had tiny support, if he only gave little bits of help and crucial info. But somehow, I don’t see that happening with this description.
I don’t even think I can apply the X factor any more to this.
I don’t know about you, but i’m happy with this news. Paul Rudd is a big name actor, having starred in the MCU films.
Also I’m relieved that the film seems to be set in the human world.
Agreed. This has the makings of Pixels written all over it, which also was live action and had a poorly conceived premise and plot. We can only hope its saving grace is the animation is beautiful to behold making it perfect material to harvest snippets for gif and meme content. But really, I just do not understand the infatuation or fixation with it being live action. It is almost as if they are making it live action just because they want to prove to the world that they can even if it means the movie crashes in a blazing, glorious failure. In all seriousness, I do know understand why the executives who want to cut a hefty profit do not just go the Wreck It Ralph route instead of trying something harder to capture and fiscally riskier.
This is because Marvel like most comic book movies care about making direct adaptation of their format to film while this instead only cares about how it can adapt a popular animated character to their beaten to death live action formula, the funny thing is Sonic X also had a very similar problem by cluttering the show with generic human anime characters.
I kinda agree. It said Tom was a title character. The only way I see him being the title character and not Sonic is if they basically did it like Transformers and TMNT where they don’t get in the way. But it’s really hard to picture Sonic needing to help or gang out with a COP of all things. Why should this cop being involved with Eggman any more than another cop or… the MILITARY? Like Sonic X is the best example of how I see this working but even they had numerous cop/detective/swat type characters.
The thing about Transformers and TMNT is they were abnormal in their worlds but existed IN that world so they needed a connection. Sonic can only do this if it’s like Sonic X where they come from another realm but then you’re gonna make it like the freakin Smurfs! XD
Yeah I saw his tweet on Twitter from other users in the sonic community. Now we know what the budget is for the sonic movie for them to spend it on.
Why not have Team Chaotix along with the cop/detective, not some random guy? True, we have no idea how good or bad this is. But if this has a broken, poorly edited plot, let’s at least try to salvage some redeeming qualities for the fans. Besides, the Chaotix are funny by their very nature and have a great chemistry. I am not sure this human cop/detective angle is going to fly so well, besides my many concerns about it being live action instead of only animated to begin with.
That never bothered me. The only difference between live action/CGI and fully animated is appearance and Sonic tuns around human cities all the time anyway. They just need to not make it super cheesy like Alvin and the Chipmunks.
POPULAR ACTOR is being eyed for the lead human role of HUMAN CHARACTER a BLANK who befriends CARTOON CHARACTER FROM THE 60-90s and will likely team up to takedown the evil CARTOON VILLAIN FROM THE 60-90s there I reduced this genre of film in 5 edits all it’s missing is the mention of NYC and it would be complete.

Update: Paramount debunked the story. Paul Rudd NOT involved with the movie. Darn. I was excited.
Only Paul Rudd?
Couldn’t afford Robert Downey Jr?
I mean…. probably not. But also no one said it was only from the MCU’s pool of actors.
