Sonic Movie: Ben Schwartz To Be Voice Of Sonic
We now know who will be the Sonic’s voice. However, Variety’s reporting that it won’t be Roger Craig Smith:
Ben Schwartz has been tapped to voice the title character in Paramount Pictures’ “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie, sources tell Variety.
James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, and Jim Carrey will also star in the live-action hybrid.
Schwartz is no stranger to voicing classic characters. He’s currently Dewey Duck on Disney Channel’s reboot of “Duck Tales” and will voice Leonardo in Nickelodeon’s “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”
Jim Carrey recently confirmed he will, indeed, play Eggman in the movie.

Sigh.
Would’ve been nice to get Roger, but this is marketing and Hollywood. It was a bit too much to expect.
I just hope this doesn’t mean Ben Schwartz is gonna replace Roger in the upcoming years. Ben could be amazing and better, but at this point I just want consistency with my game Sonic voices, if nothing else. And Sega would do it, they did it back in 2005.
I’d be fine with it. No one lives forever, after all.
He seems to be a fitting choice for movie Sonic.
I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Ben Schwartz will probably just voice him in the movies, while RCS continues to voice him in the games. RCS is apparently a pretty cheap VA that’s willing to be paid “coffee and donuts” money if Ryan Drummond is to be believed. SEGA probably wouldn’t want to put in the extra cash to get Ben Schwartz in as the voice of Sonic in the games, as he’d likely be more expensive than RCS.
If they DO change him out for Schwartz, and he does a bad job as the character, well.. there’s always the Japanese voices (which I use when playing Sonic games anyway :v).

Dunno why anyone would expect RCS for the movie. This movie is casting the net way beyond the existing, relativity small Sonic fan base. Obvious it was gonna be a celeb as the lead! Of course most of the money has clearly gone into Eggman. Such great casting!

Lately, Ben Schwartz has been voicing characters associated with the color blue. First Dewey in Ducktales, then Leonardo in Rise of the TMNT, and now this.
This is good news. If the movie is a hit, Roger might be replaced by Ben which I think gives Sonic a more attitude, less bored 30 year old voice. I wonder when the inevitable movie game will come out.
