An online Sonic Dash/Rivals hybrid that looks pretty high quality? I’M DOWN LET’S GO.
It’s not high quality those screens are bullshots, looks and plays less like Sonic Dash and more like some crummy advergame.
Maybe Sega doesn’t want to talk about mobile games until Forces comes out and hopefully gives Sonic better reputation (i.e. Hey, the game functions unlike RoL!)
Mania gave Sonic much better reputation Forces will result in Sonic being written off as a joke again but nice try.
I was referring to mainstream Sonic’s reputation, the reputation of Sonic Team’s games and the 3D Modern games.
Sonic Mania is mainstream Sonic, classic 2D Sonic is more mainstream and is seen as the image of Sonic in the eye of pop culture, this is exactly similar to how 2D Mario and NSMB games are far more mainstream than the 3D ones. You should separate it from Sonic Team’s 3D games which do indeed have a lousy reputation which I don’t see Forces doing much to fix,a legit Generations 2 might have but Forces looks to be a bizzare Frankenstein that thinks capturing the appeal of Generations means literally capturing content from it which now might possibly even include it’s Sky Sanctuary . Sonic Team’s reputation can only be solved fully if someone is put in place that understands their legacy of problems and addresses them which is something Iizuka refuses to do.
The funny thing is that no one can actually pinpoint what those problems are, because no one can agree on them.
@SSJSONICXX14
So if Maina is the NSMB of Sonic. You’re saying SEGA should now be like Nintendo and make 3 more clones of Sonic Mania with only the bare minimum changed?
Spoiler alert, I only liked the first NSMB. NSMBWii’s the only one I like but NSMB2 and Wii U just felt like rehashes and didn’t have the same charm of the first game.
No one will comment about the friggin PHANTOM RUBY PROTOTYPE ?!
Looks like Sky Sanctuary might be coming back again for Forces if this is any indication. And yet more evidence of Mania and Forces being linked with the Phantom Ruby being here, well the “prototype”.
If you haven’t been keeping up, the game was datamined and stuff like Sky Sanctuary maybe returning, Omega and Rouge returning, Chao, and the Phantom Ruby’s appearance
Leave it to a mobile game revealing more about the game than the actual PR social media
This shit will fade away just like Sonic Runners Adventure.
Sega did not say that they wanted to stop the quantity over quality thing? How many Sonic Dash/Runner games we have now?
I think when it comes to mobile no publisher is going to care how bad mobile games affect their IP if they can hook the “whales” in with microtransactions. Sega only killed Runners because of the low numbers it was doing not because of the quality of the game. And still this is the same Sega that thought forcing Denuvo wouldn’t hurt Mania on PC and thinks that Forces will be received well in the wake of Mania, big spoiler alert here but guess what happens when anyone who’s played Mania plays Classic in Forces? A rude awakening that’s for here and I figure it will be talked up a lot in reviews and generally by anyone who isn’t a diehard apologist willing to excuse away Sonic Team’s laziness.
That is a very narrow perspective of it. In fact you have to be a diehard accuser in order to say that more than you have to be a diehard apologist to defend against it.
The mobile games are just that, simple mobile games. Most if not all of them are received just fine for what they are and no one cares about them enough for it to help or hurt the IP. Sonic mania is great but there are a large portion of fans that don’t give a crap about it. Why? Because the classic days were such a small percentage of the franchise that many of the fans are people who grew up with the modern games now. Some of them became fans of the classics as well because the games that introduced them into the series were good enough to hook them, such as SA2. Overall, most of these games being good or bad is an opinion unless we are talking about how broken they are. Most sonic games or decent to good in a general criteria. Sonics reputation is more based off of hearsay than the actual games and that is because sonic has lasted (instead of dying like ppl claim) so long that there are many bitter gamers.
Naturally, there is going to be prejudice and bias towards sonic forces and thus negative reception will come no doubt. This is kind of obvious. However, the tone and the concept will be refreshing for many others who have wanted sonic to be a little less silly or the people who have been wanting to see more mainstream modern sonic again. And as for classic sonic’s appearance and his gameplay, I really doubt the most reasonable people are going to expect it to feel exactly like sonic mania which is a 2D game. The way the modern sonic games feel when you control them, this influences how I expect classic sonic to feel as well, as it is the same game. I expect it to feel like classic sonic in modern sonic’s world. If he jumps and rolls and spindashes and controls the same and the levels are kind of the same, the concept is the same, and over all it feels pretty much the same because it is the same, it’s classic sonic, I don’t really give a damn about whether or not I have to jump on top of the spring or run into it to bounce. It’s not really something I think about in the grand scheme of the concept. Many people will nitpick things just like that, only these are not things that kids think about and these are not things that I process while playing a game and having fun. Many people pick at gameplay elements in detail with analysis. I would too, but only keeping in mind that playing a game usually involves being invested in the world. There is probably a very small percentage of people who focus on all the little detailed mechanics and what way they are portrayed. That spring example I gave is not even something I realized until it was pointed out to me. I played classic sonic in generations, and that was fine. No problems there. So far everything in this upcoming game has been interesting to me or at least passable. There might be a reason for seeing some of the same stages again, or maybe it’s laziness. An apologist will try to defend such laziness if that is what it is, but I won’t. I will say that I agree with you that is lazy. It’s just that in the end I also don’t really care that much depending on how they go about it. So far this game also looks fine to me. I’m not an apologist. I don’t really like the storybook games, or sonic labyrinth, and honestly I think sonic heroes is decent but I don’t care much for it. Same with shadow the hedgehog to a much lesser extent. I find 06 to be more interesting but less satisfying as a completed game due to its incomplete nature. But like I said, a good game or a bad game is just an opinion aside from the criteria. If the game meets the criteria, then we will have to see if I like the game or not but it is possible. And a random person on a sonic page saying otherwise means nothing to anyone. Which is mainly what I wanted to let you know~
^^
This person gets it.
Anyone think it would be really funny if the Phantom Ruby is called “Phantom Ruby Prototype” in Forces? It sounds like some translation quirk that doesn’t work well that nobody would bother to localize properly like “look at all those eggman’s robots” and “black creatures”. It’s shown in Mania to affect technology like turning HBHs into completely new forms with new personalities so whatever the original Japanese of “Phantom Ruby Prototype” is part of it might be referring to it’s technological nature which might work elegantly in Japanese but can’t in English
This is pretty neat, Sonic Dash was good to kill some time, now is a racer instead of an infinite runner? Count me in!
Just hope there are more characters to be unveiled, like Blaze and Infinite.
