Sonic Adventure 2 and Bayonetta, now backwards compatible with Xbox One
There is still a long wait until Sega announces anything related to the 25th anniversary game, supposedly coming to PS4 and Xbox One, but Microsoft’s next gen console users might have a little treat to ease the wait.
Microsoft revealed a while ago that many third party companies would support their Xbox One backwards compatibility program with some of their Xbox 360 back catalogue, including SEGA. Now, the first titles of that agreement are revealed.
At the list of backwards compatible 360 games revealed today by Microsoft, we can find two SEGA games that will be made available next November: Bayonetta and Sonic Adventure 2, being this the first appearance of the blue hedgehog on Microsoft’s next gen console.
If you own any of those games on your Xbox 360, it’s pretty easy to play them on you Xbox One. If you have them at a physical release, like Bayonetta, you just have to insert the game disk at your Xbox One console. For digital games like Sonic Adventure 2, things might be a little tricker. If you already bought it on 360, you only have to use the same gamer tag you used back on 360 at the ONE, and all your backwards compatible games will appear ready at your game library. If you didn’t own it, it’s as easy as gong to Xbox.com website and buying the game, as they are not available to buy through Xbox One store yet – it might change once the backwards compatibility is readily available for everyone in November.
One way of the other, you can now play Sonic Adventure 2 and Bayonetta on your Xbox One. And not only that, Microsoft has opened a survey for all gamers to ask for what 360 games they would like to see being backwards compatible at Xbox One, where you can vote for all SEGA games ( like Sonic Generations or Out Run 2 Arcade Online…because you won’t leave that awesome game abandoned once you migrate to Xbox One, won’t you? One needs blue skies and fast Ferrari cars!)
Wise move Sega, hope the first Sonic Adventure make it as well.
It’s sad for me as a Sony fan to see Microsoft doing the one good thing that Sony isn’t so far…dumb Playstation Now… TT_TT””
They would need to throw a lot of time and money at it compared to MS because of the complexity of the PS3 hardware. It’s a similar case to how the PS1 was easier to emulate than the Saturn, the best good Saturn emulators didn’t popup until about a decade after the PS1 had near perfect ones while that system was still going strong to boot.
But yes I do think Sony put down ideas of making this a possibility for them the second they bought Gaikai. It’s a shame neither of them will ever do something like include a high bandwidth connector for connecting a BC addon.
I lost a comment please get it back? T_T”””””
THANK YOU!!!
I believe this was on the list of games at E3 shown as “coming soon” so it’s about time they updated the preview program to include it. Sonic Generations and Sonic Adventure are the next two most voted for Sonic games and now we know SEGA is on board with green lighting their games to be backwards combatable they need as many votes as they can get to show SEGA and Microsoft that they are a priority.
Took them long enough for the backwards compatibility.
How do I download SA 2 on my xbox one? I already have it one my 360, so why isn’t it downloading on my xbox one? Am I missing something, or do I have to wait for Microsoft to release the backwards capability app first? If anyone can help, thanks!
At long last – a good news. I like it.
Good thing that SEGA chose SA2 to introduce Sonic to new generation of gamers.
SEGA should rerelease this on Wii U. I can’t afford an Xbox One!
I know, Sega has no excuse for not releasing Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 on the Wii U eshop. You’d think for the company Sega is closest in terms with now in days, that they’d give the Wii U the same digital release treatment as PS3 and Xbox 360?
At least they’re not like Namco, where they announced an HD Soul Calibur 2, yet upset so many when they announced there won’t be on for Wii U. The Wii U version would have been the ultimate package! We could have gotten the Xbox and PS exclusive characters who were brought into the HD ports, and we could have gotten the addition to Link, who would have to stay as a console exclusive. Instead, Namco lied to us and claimed if it got enough support, then they’d think about it. Yet there were a lot of people who posted about it on forums, petitions, and more, yet here were are, about a year later, and not even a word… Screw Namco, you’d think the company that helped make SSB for Wii U and 3ds would be more supportive of Nintendo and their fans…
Yeah, Bandai Namco Games confuses me so much sometimes.
