Sonic 2: Robotnik’s Revenge Development Update
YarHarHar gave Sonic fans an update on his project today:
This is just a little post to keep ya’ll updated.
First off, the engine has moved to DX8 (DirectX 8); nothing gigantic has changed yet. I am going to try to convert the engine to D3D (Direct 3D) so I can do rotations, scaling, and transparencies really nicely.
But that hasn’t happened yet. D3D is very confusing, but it’s only a matter of time until I figure it out.
Otherwise, I’m currently still reworking the inner-workings of S2:RR (IE organizing my code) so that if and when I convert it to D3D, it will be as painless as possible. It’s also being done so that it will be easier for me to continue programming. Conservatively speaking, I’d say it’s (code programming) about 50% done.
I’ve changed my Sonic sprite slightly, changing Sonic’s walking sprites to Sonic 2 Final because they look better, and I’ve made Sonic much faster. (He’s) not quite twice as fast; a good way to describe it would be how much of a speed gain the characters in Chaotix got(besides Knuckles, who became slower.) Sonic moves really fast now, but it feels right.
Oh yeah, Knux is coming along as well; I have to redo some of his animations that I have done currently, because I didn’t rip the sprite correctly, but that’s OK.
