The tournament to end all tournaments is back…because we were the only ones crazy enough to revive it.

Metallic Madness is back to keep it all blue all through the next several weeks of that other sportsball tournament in the real world. Like last year, it’s all for fun–that is, unless your favorite character or fan site is in our revamped Sonic Scene of 64. Take a look:

With Modern Sonic claiming the King of the Ring title last year, he’s earned the 1 seed this year, and he may have a tougher trip to the top this year, with fan favorites like Shadow, Silver, and the eerie Tails Doll joining the ranks of the renamed Mania division.

In fact, all winners of the four divisions last year earned automatic 1 seeds this year. Knuckles heads up his own self-titled division, with newly revealed Heavy Gunner ready for battle in a revamped lineup of the good, the bad, and the roboticized. Sally leads in the Resistance division, an all-female battle royale. And Tails Channel takes the lead in a more diverse Community division, with sites from Brazil, New Zealand, and Russia added in, among others.

Voting begins today on our Twitter feed at approximately noon ET. Each match lasts two hours. We’ll have a break around 4PM to concentrate on our coverage of the SXSW panel, then resume voting at 8PM ET. Here’s the lineup for Thursday (all times approximate):
