UPDATE: Sega Makes Sonic Generations PC Port Official
The worst kept Sega secret in a good while was confirmed by the company this morning in a press release: Sonic Generations will be coming to the PC right around the same time as the console version. This, after the port was pretty much confirmed Friday via a trademark Sega slip-up and other overwhelming evidence to support.
The press release below confirms the game will be coming to an array of digital download platforms, including Steam. Stereoscopic 3D display will be included, as will online leaderboards, achievements, and in the case of a Steam download, the ability to push save data to the cloud.
UPDATE: A clarification on the Sega blog confirms a physical copy for the PC will be available, but only after the digital copies launch, and only in Europe.

Finally! 😀
Now the next big question — will it be supported with DLC?
Very awesome news for those who don’t own a 360 or PS3. Now I won’t feel left out of Sonic’s 20th Anniversary.
Amazing present for my birthday! Thank you, Sega!
Well, i’m getting the PS3, 3DS, and PC copies now.
Wow, took you long enough, SEGA. I swear your company is run by monkeys.
Awesome 😀 now let it show up on steam so I can preorder it already.
Why would something like this be kept so secret? Okay, it’s on PC, great, why hype it up?
Yeah!! I will get it first on Xbox360 for achievements, but I definately want to play this masterpiece on PC, at 60fps and 1080p. I will need a better PC for that though 😛
To those who don’t have a 360 or PS3 and no money for a 3DS, I congratulate them on finally playing this soon-to-be fantastic game. 😀
AWESOME!
Now I need money for my steam account B) Guess I need to buy paysafecard 😀
@AJBSONIC
Well, I don’t know about others, but I’m hyping this because I’M FINALLY HAVING A NEW SONIC GAME! 8D
I love Sega now <33 Thank you <33

FINALLY! now people can stop bitching about it
Dl size approx.? I’m not downloading if it’s like 15GB or something.
Does Europe (in this sense, I know it’s not ACTUALLY A PART OF EUROPE) cover New Zealand too? I really want a physical copy!
Actually, they still can–there is no Mac support, at least not yet.
How is the virtual copy going to be released?
Well, FINNALLY they confirmed the PC version (yah, after I bought a 3DS, pre-ordered the pc version AND my computer got broken ._.) By the way…how will it work? will it be downloaded for free or will it cost? And…how? If someone knows, please tell me D:
OH SRY XD I meant to say “3DS version” in where I put “I pre-ordered the PC version” !!!!
OH FINALLY!!! SEGA, YOU GUYS REALLY KNOW HOW TO KEEP PEOPLE WAITING =.= But still, it feels great to know that it’s now official. ROCK ON GENERATIONS! =D
My purchase will be determined on dlc support…So please Sega, tell us.
“*this is sarcasm”
OK, new Sega community manager caught my eye for the first time.
plz tell me! will it come to US?

“Okay, it’s on PC, great, why hype it up?”
The pirates HAY!!!
The physic copies is sega speaking: pirate me.
@AJBSONIC 1. There hasn’t been a PC Sonic game since Heroes and Riders.
2. PC is the superior platform in games (truth), with awesome HD, and compatibility with a whole bunch of controls and displays.
3. Recommended PC requirements are a quad core PC, 3, 4 gigs of RAM, and a GTX 4xx. That is BEAST for a game, meaning the graphics will be utter sex.
There are loads of other reasons to hype up the excitement, other than Steam Support, which is already AWESOME.
@Tatsumaki
PC has the POTENTIAL to be a superior platform, provided your computer is up to snuff. If you’ve got anything less than a beast-mode setup though (ie. most people), PC ports of games like this are an absolute joke and not even worth the trouble of pirating.
@ChaoticFox
Agreed, but still doesn’t take away the merit from PC giving a richer experience in pretty much everything else. I wouldn’t say that a beast setup is necessary. There’s desktops online right now that are quad cores with 4gbs and decent quality out there with Windows 7 64 bit for just 400 bucks. Add a good graphics card, 500, 600 bucks. Not that expensive, if you compare it to a 360 console, plus the online service, additional controllers, and games.
@Tatsumaki
Well obviously if I were destitute and forced to choose between a PC or an Xbox, I’d choose the PC – that’s a no-brainer for everyone. It’s also not at all relevant to this particular topic. This isn’t a console war, lol.
For those who happen to own both, I’m willing to bet that your average consumer’s PC isn’t equipped to run Generations as well as their Xbox will (not to mention the issues of monitor size and convenience). I’m just saying that it seems like only a fairly small demographic would really be excited about this: High-end-PC-owning Sonic fans who somehow don’t have access to a traditional console.
PCs are great, I’m not debating that. But this announcement isn’t really all that exciting for most people.
@ChaoticFox
Oh, well yeah, you’re right about that. XD
I’m really just excited for this, as I’m thinking of getting me a new computer later on. XP
notice on the blog they removed the November 4th statement 🙁 dies this mean we are gonna be waiting longer?
@ztrot
I noticed the same thing! And I’m not seeing the physical PC port part anymore D8 Did they erase that information too?
THIS IS WHAT YOU YANKS GET FOR MOCKING SONIC FOR THE PAST DECADE, NOW EVERYTHING IS COMING FOR EUROPEANS!! XD
