SEGA AGES Sonic 2 to include Knuckles Lock-On
The latest edition of Weekly Famitsu magazine has revealed the upcoming Switch remaster of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will include the Knuckles in Sonic 2 mod, according to Gematsu.
The Knuckles mod, originally enacted when players “locked on” Sonic 2 to the Sonic and Knuckles cartridge, is sobering news on two fronts: First, it’s another reminder of the legacy Sonic and Knuckles left in the context of Sonic 3, a remaster long requested by classic Sonic fans, and which appears to not be on the cards anywhere. Second, it’s not yet the next best thing fans would have wanted: a version of the Taxman/Stealth remastered Sonic 2 that, to date, has only been released to mobile OS platforms.
Famitsu did not indicate whether that edition would be included in the game–or a release date timetable. Sonic 2 was one of the first titles announced as part of the Sega Ages line for Switch, and there has been rampant speculation in the community since as to what could or should be included. Still, as it is part of the Sega Ages line, there will be enhancements, leaderboards, and more–but to what extent is what has fans waiting with guarded anticipation.
We will keep you informed when we learn more.
Maybe the dream isn’t true at the end. The was a good chance to recreate the real Sonic 2: Aka: Sonic 2 CD… In some point.
