SAGE 2018 Booth Overviews: Set 9
Every day of SAGE, TSSZ will give you brief overviews of each booth’s amazing community content. Be sure to check back during the expo for more, and look out for Ryan Bloom giving each work a separate mini-review! You can play all games featured by heading to SAGE and clicking on the Games tab.
Rocket Brown 2
We missed any mention of the original, but the sequel continues the series legacy of a game with a message. According to developer Jerry McClellan, Rocket Brown 2 intends to present and pay respect to retro gaming “through the lens of urban/African-American culture.” The expansive demo on display at SAGE includes 12 levels across five worlds. According to McClellan, that’s less than a third of what’s planned for the final release.
Mega Man Adventure
Like many other non-Sonic IPs, Mega Man has enjoyed a strong presence at recent SAGE events. This year, a Unity-based 3D action platformer from the franchise is getting some rave reviews from players. Mega Man Adventure, interesting enough, was originally planned as a Fairly Odd Parents fan game. It is developer ZackXevious’s first foray onto the SAGE stage, with plenty of encouragement to keep going.
Sonic Mania and Sonic Plus
It has long been the community’s running joke to add & Knuckles to anything and everything. Developer Modern had a different idea: Instead of adding Knuckles, why not another Sonic? The results is this Sonic Mania based mod where you’ll be seeing blue everywhere. Enemies, bosses, special stages, and even the game’s color palette are all tied to the blue blur. There are plenty of other secrets to find, too.
Sonic Warrior
Molatino’s first entry into SAGE is as simple and standard as it gets: Sonic and Tails are out on a new adventure with new areas to explore. Largely a one-person effort, Warrior‘s demo includes multiple pathways for the two playable characters, and exploration incentives with both Chaos Emeralds and Time Stones involved.
