SAGE 2018 Booth Overviews: Set 2
Every day of SAGE, TSSZ will give you brief overviews of each booth’s amazing community content. Be sure to check back during the expo for more, and look out for Ryan Bloom giving each work a separate mini-review! You can play all games featured by heading to SAGE and clicking on the Games tab.
Knuckles the Echidna: Burrow Trouble
Creator Gui Botta proposes a different take on the long-standing Knuckles persona: Adding more personality and character traits to his gameplay mechanics. Though only a one-level Mushroom Hill demo is on display, Burrow Trouble stays close to original Sonic styles while adding unique twists, including suiting up as the stage’s original mini-boss.
Sonic the Hedgehog PC
This was one of the big talkers from last year’s SAGE, and the remastered edition of the long reviled Sonic 2006 is back again this year. Players can tackle Crisis City in this Unity-rebuilt take on one of Sonic’s most controversial entries. Project leads Mefiresu and Gistix have already warned gameplay is just as difficult here as in the original. Practice will make perfect, but will this ultimately become a perfect version of a near universally declared imperfect game?
Sonic Rush Dimensions
Another return entrant from last year’s expo, a new demo slated for release during SAGE promises to improve upon what was originally known as Sonic Rush Legacy. while still retaining many of the Rush mechanics. Sonic, Blaze, and what appears to be Scourge are anticipated to be playable.
Sonic Advance Revamped
Another “rebuilt from the ground up” title at this year’s SAGE is a very promising take on Sonic Advance from the Game Boy Advance. Project lead Alexander Brunetto has three robust stages for SAGE-goers to play. You can also partake in a “duo mode,” which allows partnering up with any of the game’s several playable characters, including Blaze and Cream.
Sonic.EXE: The Assault
It is so difficult to pin an exact description on Seif Islem Messaoudi’s Unity-based fan game, as it’s unlike most any fan title created before. We know it’s based on Creepypasta Internet lore, and it’s being marketed as a first person horror game. We also know a new version will debut during SAGE – likely later this evening. The trailer above does a good job setting the stage; the question is: Do you have enough nerves of steel in you to take a deep dive?
