SAGE 2009: Aria of Destiny Teaser
‘Aria of Destiny’ is an action-adventure crossover game build using an Open Source game builder called Construct. It combines characters from many different series including Megaman, Castlevania, and Sonic to create a platformer which only limits you to your character’s abilities. In the authors own words, ‘exploration is not only possible, but recommended!’ in this game.
Each character has their own abilities to work their way through the three areas. For example Julius – a whip, and Sonic – the classic jump into enemies. Characters can be switched between at certain points in the areas and each character has ‘stats’ which can be upgraded in the classic RPG style.
Here is how the game is described by the author:
There are three aspects of the multiverse which keep everything in check. Creation, Existence, and Destruction. These aspects revolve in harmony with each other. However, evil can disrupt this balance, and now it intends to use the aspect of destruction to eliminate existence, and halt creation…
Candescence uploaded a teaser video of ‘Aria of Destiny’ this week. Here it is:
The feedback on the games main SFGHQ Forum Topic has generally been mixed. This is generally because of the mixed opinions on crossover games. I personally am eagerly anticipating the demo that will be released at SAGE.
sweeeeet
Mixed opinions? The majority of the people who bought Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games probably weren’t off-put by the concept; heck, that was probably the reason why they BOUGHT IT.
There wouldn’t BE any mixed opinions about this game’s plot…if they took the gameplay more seriously than the concept behind it. It seems pretty solid to me, being able to switch between many characters with different skill sets to completely be able to finish the entire game. Not to mention the Belmonts are ALWAYS awesome. 😀
“BRB, FOOTAGE STOLEN BY KEFKA” pretty much sums it all up. It’s not a plot that’s meant to be taken too seriously…whether or not it PLAYS should be the big question.
Is this some kind of weird mixture of Castlevainia, Sonic, Megaman and something like Final Fantasy?…….?…!……..O_o
Osnic : You mean “Dead Fantasy”
Holy hell, I didn’t think my game would get an article here! Yeah, Candescence here. Just to note, the booth, besides the demo and possibly a proper trailer and promo art, will have a page detailing my commentary of the game’s development so far. Also, to be precise, this game is a Metroidvania – think the Metroid games, or the Castlevania games including and since Symphony of the Night.
Also, just to note, the mixed reception partly came from the fact that the old demo was far less polished than what I’m gonna release at SAGE. Don’t get any ideas, the demo I have planned for SAGE won’t be the most polished thing evar (still mulling over an annoying crash bug, though it’s sure as hell not game-breaking and only a slight annoyance), but I’ll try. Granted, I am rather modest, I’ve noticed, but still.
@ sonicsmashkirby: Glad you liked it. 😀
@iNAUDiBLE: Personally, I loved M&S. Though I am taking the plot seriously (I am a writer, after all, and I damn well intend to make at least one player cry by the end), make no mistake, the gameplay is the focus (that, and I’ve restricted the plot for the most part to static frame cutscenes). The demo won’t be the most polished thing ever, but at least I’ll try and make it fun. The Kefka bit was thrown in because it was a teaser and for laughs, not to mention it suits Kefka perfectly, after all, he’s an absolute dick, but a hilarious one. Expect old and new one-liners from him.
@Osnic: Crossover of Mega Man, Castlevania, Sonic, Wario, Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI, to be exact. And that’s only part of it.
@Edwin Shy: Wasn’t an inspiration by any means (not a fan of DOA or any FF since VI by any means), but, sure, why not.
