Phantasy Star Card Game in the Works
At a roundtable discussion at the E3Expo in Los Angeles, Shigeru Miyamoto announced Sega’s plans to produce a card game based on their Phantasy Star franchise for Nintendo GameCube.
Although no details about the game were announced, Mr. Miyamoto explained that Sega’s original inspiration for the game came from the new LCD screen accessory for Nintendo GameCube. This screen, which connects to the top of the Nintendo GameCube, allows gamers to play Nintendo GameCube games without the need for a television.
If multiple players were each to have a Nintendo GameCube and LCD screen, each player could have a private screen which other players could not see. For obvious reasons, a card game would be a great application for this new technology.
At the press event, Nintendo displayed two Nintendo GameCubes, each equipped with an LCD screen accessory. The two systems were connected by a broadband cable, enabling two players to compete against each other, each with a private screen.
This game is still in the planning process, and Sega has not announced a release date either for the United States or Japan.
