More Chaos Con Convention Information
Below is a ton of info on this summers Chaos Con (Vention), you’ll be able to sign up to any of the 4 categories of Fan art, Fan Fiction, Fan game, or Fan Music! Each category will get you a chance to win a great prize, below is the info. Its easy, so sign up and there’s a good chance you can win! Below is info written by the host of the convention, Miles Attacca:
Chaos Con was the idea of Miles Attacca, webmaster of Prower Power (http://prowerpower.digibase.ca). As the title suggests, it’s a convention.
The subject: Sonic the Hedgehog fan works. The con will be hosted online, and will run during the week of June 20th to the 26th. (One reason
for this is attendance — a large amount of the Sonic fan base wouldn’t be able to get to the convention if it were in the real world. A second
reason is that it would also be a lot more expensive for the webmaster and those wishing to participate. I understand that several people will
still be in school testing at the time, however.) The height of CC will be June 23rd, Sonic’s 13th birthday, and the middle of the week.
Unlike Sonic online conventions such as the popular Sonic Amateur Games Expo (SAGE), more than one category of the fan community will be
focused upon. Instead of just featuring games or art, Chaos Con will have five categories — fiction, art, comics, music, and games. One of the
goals of the convention is to help those participating to further improve their work, so a team of three judges will go through every booth and
its wares and write a review.
These three judges will be selected by Miles Attacca. They’ll be impartial to all of the booths, and judge strictly on quality, taking no
favorites. (If you’d like to try your hand at judging if you don’t plan to participate, the CC page holds more information.) Besides reviewing,
they’ll also select 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each category. A special prize will be awarded to the 1st-place winner of each category.
For fiction: Two strategy guides, of Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Heroes
For art: A limited-edition Shadow T-shirt
For comics: The Tails 3-issue miniseries by Archie Comics and the Sonic “Firsts” trade paperback by the same
For music: The Sonic Heroes OST (soundtrack)
And for games: An original handheld SEGA GameGear and a cartridge of the GameGear game Sonic Chaos
Registration started on March 20th, and will end on May 20th, one month before the event start. All current Chaos Con information can be found
on Prower Power, and the URL of the main Chaos Con page is http://prowerpower.digibase.ca/chaoscon-regform.html — also on-site. For those
planning to register, it includes guidelines for an e-mailed registration and a form to fill out to make it easier if someone so wishes. The
only requirements to register are at least one category to enter, at least one thing (per category) to display, and an e-mail address for
essential contact information. (It’s also recommended that you have an AIM screen name, but that’s totally optional.)
Wares will be displayed on “booth” sites. If you want free webhosting for the event, without ads, you can check out http://www.digibase.ca —
DigiBase webhosting, which offers several hundred megabytes of webspace and unlimited traffic, plus several other attractive features. Other
free hosting services include GeoCities, Angelfire, and Tripod, which can be easily found using a search engine. If someone isn’t able to put
together a booth site, they can contact Miles Attacca and have a basic booth created and hosted on Prower Power. (Contact MA for more details
at the e-mail address attacca1@netscape.net if you need it.) (When you submit your registration, be sure to include the booth’s web address
unless you indicate you want a booth hosted on Prower Power.)
Two weeks to the event, all registrars will get a sneak peek at the design of the main Chaos Con website, but before that some screenshots of
the design will be periodically released with every other Prower Power update.
Information for sending in donations to help finance the event (i.e., to buy prizes, etc.) can be found on the Chaos Con page. (Those
participating in the event — judges and those running booths — aren’t able to donate, to maintain impartiality.)
During the event, an IRC chat channel will be hosted on the Mysteria IRC network — irc2.mysteria.net — in the channel #chaoscon (more
information is provided elsewhere on Prower Power about how to get onto IRC).
It’s only three weeks until Chaos Con registration closes!
