Indianapolis Ordinance Stopped
Wonderful news from SegaDojo; take a look for yourself:
Just as the city’s government was getting ready to inform local arcades about the new ordinance, the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ordered them to hold off on the ordinance. The appeal was filed by the American Amusement Machine Association and the Amusement and Music Operators Association, along with a group of Indiana distributors and operators. They stated that the ordinance, which was passed back in August, knocked down First Amendment free-speech laurels.
A spokesperson for the mayor’s office in Indianapolis, Steve Campbell, said, We had started sending people out to do random visits to different arcades and other sights, basically to educate business owners about what the law is all about. We actually hadn’t planned on writing any tickets at this point. We just wanted to let them know about it.
This stoppage could have serious implications for other ordinances that are in the works for other cities. This won’t be the last time we look at this; stay here for the latest.
