Ian Flynn Talks About Whether Sticks Will Appear In IDW Sonic
A new episode of the BumbleKast has been released. This time, the Q&A is the focus of the episode. Once again, we got some information about the fate of a Sonic character:
At some point in the IDW Sonic, when will we see the IDW version of Sticks show up and be a part of that universe? In fact, could we see Sticks and IDW Amy Rose become BFFs?
“We’ll work backwards on that. As far as I can tell, the canon version of Sticks is that she is always friends with Amy. So that can just be assumed I guess. When, where, and how we introduce Sticks to the comic, I’m not going to say, because that would be spoilerific. I’m sure she’ll show up at some point because she’s super popular. She’s, like, the only spin-off material that has bridged the gap into main canon that I can think of off the top of my head. And I’m not counting the Freedom Fighters showing up in Spinball, that’s another thing altogether. That doesn’t count, really. So, yeah, Sticks will show up at some point.”
Kyle asked Ian if Sticks would have the same design: “Yeah, because her art on Sonic Channel is pretty much the same so it looks like she’s just coming over wholesale”.
The video can be seen here. The question about Sticks is asked at the 26 minute mark.

I’m actually excited if Sticks come it would be more fun to express her character more,
Since she is from the Sonic Boom universe I hope she comes to Sonic’ world through a portal or something (like Blaze) and that she only shows up sporadically.
Plus she really needs to meet Marine at some point.
I think that she could be just a resident of This Sonic’s world, but since her only real canon is the Boom one, if she is to be introduced in the comics, she’d probably would have to be treated as a brand new character that has no history with the cast (as in, they are meeting her for the first time).
@KID KAOS
I don’t really think Sticks will becone a series regular in this comic, I think Ian was talking about her making a cameo or brief appearance only.
With the possibility of Sticks and the Freedom Fighters returning later in the comic, it makes me wonder what other characters are also available.
There’s also the question of how they will be incorporated. Will it be through a crossover event, or will they be indigenous to the IDW universe? With SEGA handling the series, you’d think they would be hesitant in allowing it due to their apparent fear of brand confusion; but they seem to be putting a lot of faith in Ian and IDW this time around, so maybe they’ve learned to loosen up a bit since Archie’s run.
Why are we still pretending that anything from Sonic Boom matters.
And why bother with Sticks when we already have Cream (someone who already hangs with Amy), as well as the new girl Tango. Hell, even Marine (before Sticks was even a thing).
I think the elements of “Boom” matter just as much as any other continuity – SatAM, Underground, X, Archie, Fleetway, etc. They’re all beloved by their own fanbase and hold great promise, which is why a lot of them wish they’ll return to the limelight.
The reason why Sticks is often paired with Amy is due to the funny chemistry they share – an orderly, polite socialite vs. a shabby, reclusive oddball – and yet they’re still the best of friends. Tangle has been confirmed to be more of a friend to Sonic, so she likely appeals more to his tastes rather than Amy’s. Meantime, Marine is native to the Sol Dimension and can probably visit only on occasions; and Cream (to put it frankly) isn’t all that entertaining as a character.
Now we’re entering your bias territory.
Despite being a major character in Sonic’s inner circle, she isn’t entertaining? Meanwhile, one character is only relevant in a separate spin-off that’s only been around for a couple of years.
Ian has company man written all over him these days so of course he’s gonna act like it matters.
I agree with you there, I don’t mind a couple of cameos from Sticks but I don’t fancy having her as a series regular, especially since Marine is already part of the Modern universe and she feels like a similar but more developed and interesting character than Sticks.
How can i communicate with IDW
Boom has bridged the gap from SEGA’s hand to a wood chipper, don’t worry though I’m sure season 3 will be announced any day now :^).
Sonic Boom is enough on TV. We want Sonic Undergroun and SatAM
Oh he’s also wrong about Sticks being the only spin-off material to be bridged into “main canon” since he uses material instead of character which means chilidogs being introduced into the vague Iizuka fever dream idea of “main canon” in Unleashed predates her by years.
Haven’t listened to the podcast myself, but I imagine in this case specifically, Ian is referring to a character from spin-off material making it to main canon…which is also incorrect since Amy was technically introduced in a manga long before Sonic CD
