Former & Current Sonic Team Members React To Sonic’s Movie Design
It is an understatement to say that the realistic design of Sonic is unpopular. It is so unpopular that there are even some former Sonic Team members that are not too fond of this. A few current members have reacted as well:

I still can’t believe they went for a super realistic design, the original design would have worked well with just some realistic texture, fur and just a little more defined musculature.
Also what if it doesn’t “merge” well with the real world? Detective Pikachu looks good regardless and with the Sonic movie they had the perfect excuse since that Sonic is not from the human world.

I’ll be honest here, when I first heard about this Sonic live-action movie, I never EVER had any hopes for this project. Why? Because making a movie based on video games.. it always ended up badly. I’m sure this Sonic Movie will be like Super Mario Bros. (Live Action) 2.0 :P
And I still don’t care about this stupid Sonic Movie. If you guys have a big problem about this live-action version, then just ignore it and stick with the classics everyone.
Well the problem with that is when Sega goes wacky supporting this with a possible tie-in game complete with more asinine comments from Iizuka where he dismisses the idea of Mania getting a sequel. This awful looking movie is vindictive of the whole state this franchise, the success of Mania and Adventures so the direction it needs to go but Boom 2.0 here and people like Iizuka could very well derail it.
Sonic can’t risk anymore blemishes to his good name.
Remember Lost World and Sonic Boom (and Forces).
This could be a Franchise Killer.
