Details on SA’s Internet Mode
The IGN Dreamcast site is reporting that the 56K Modem won’t be wasted after all:
Yeah, yeah, yeah . . . no internet gaming for the DC until next year. We’ve heard it over and over again, and we just hate it. Sega seems to have somewhat of a partial solution to their internet problems, though, and it involves Sonic Adventure. No, you’ll not be able to play Sonic Team’s instant classic online, but you will be able to use your DC to access the Sonic Adventure Homepage, which will allow you to get hints and tips, participate in a time attack world ranking area, and trade Chao creatures. Sega’s also planning some additional exclusives for owners of the game, although they’re not sharing any more info with us. One possibility involves the downloading of various patches to the game that allow for new graphical themes; this past Christmas in Japan, for instance, Sega of Japan allowed gamers to download a patch that turned the game’s Station Square into a winter wonderland. It’s a safe bet to assume that Sega of America will offer similar downloads.
So don’t worry, fellow gamers . . . that 56K modem won’t go to waste while you wait for Sega to get its gaming network in place.
What is said and what is suggested are very good ideas. Perhaps Sega will listen and bring the suggestions to life.
