‘Ragnarok Pt 2: The Oncoming Storm’ was completed 21/08/06.
This is the second part of a three part special that takes SW into it’s new story arc. It, like part one took AGES. Possibly several of the ice variety. This was mainly due to problems finalising the script.
‘The Oncoming Storm’ is actually a reference to Doctor Who, it is the name given to The Doctor in artefacts made by the ancient Daleks on Skaro.
The ‘latin singing’ in this comic is generally in tune and words a mock of John Williams’ ‘Duel of the Fates’ from ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace’. This re-started the trend for music of this kind in films, something that was followed by films such as the later Matrix films.
Angelus’s comments about his look are just to remind people he isn’t an echidna and doesn’t like being stuck as one – this will have more baring in later comics with Angelus.
The Hurrichidna Kick – an obvious parody of the Hurricane Kick or the Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku which explains the cry.
Another Ken/Ryu move is ripped off shamelessly. With the Draghog Punch (Dragon Punch). Sonadowken replacing Shoryuken as the cry. Sonadow is the fan name for, er, the ‘romantic’ coupling of Sonic & Shadow.
Super Sonic also seems to be sporting a Ryu-esque red headband; Hence Amy’s comment.
It’s an interesting mirror as Sonic (and Knuckles) are seemingly trained in Street Figher II techniques (Goutetsu-style Ansatsuken specifically). Yet Shadow was trained as a ninja in the Mortal Kombat style; as in the Shirai Ryu or Lin Kuei clans. (See #23: Kontinue?)
At what point do you notice the singing getting stupider?
Timon & Pumbaa are the meercat and warthog duo from ‘The Lion King’.
Yes, Knuckles’ special attack is to rip part of the comic frame off and smash Sonic over the head with it.
Only for Sonic to fall through the ‘top’ of the frame below onto Knux. That’s called irony folks!
“You were supposed to bring balance to the comic, not leave it in tatters!” is a Revenge of the Sith reference.
There was a whole truckload of new sprites for this comic.
Disclaimer time! “Are you man enough to fight with me?” is Guile’s win quote from Street Fighter II.
Augie’s Great Municipal Band is the band (and track) played at the end of Phantom Menace.
” The first rule of…” is a reference to the film ‘Fight Club’.
“My brain is squirming like a toad.” Is a line taken from the song ‘Riders on the Storm’ by The Doors, it was later remixed by Snoop Dogg. This version was included on the soundtrack to Need For Speed Underground 2.
“This is totally against my will!” Was a variation on the catchphrase of the priestess character Melissa used in the anime series Rune Soldier.
