April Fools: SEGA Announces Shadow the Hedgehog Adventures
Hot on the heels of Sonic Mania Adventures, SEGA has revealed their intention to give other Sonic games the animated treatment. In a press release today, the company announced Shadow the Hedgehog Adventures, a multi-part animated series detailing the exploits of Shadow after his climactic battle with Black Doom. Unlike Mania Adventures, the series will be produced entirely through CGI, and SEGA clearly hopes to recapture the brooding grittiness of the original game’s story. Series producer Takashi Iizuka discussed the series in the press release:
We are very pleased that many people are enjoying Sonic Mania Adventures, and we believe Shadow the Hedgehog Adventures will also be popular with Sonic fans. We think the style of the Shadow the Hedgehog game will work very well as an animated series, and it will let us tell more serious and realistic stores that will make fans happy.
During the live announcement, which was streamed on Periscope, community manager Aaron Webber could be seen clutching a Big the Cat plushie and shaking his head glumly in the background. Shadow the Hedgehog Adventures will consist of at least twelve thirty-minute episodes, and it will premiere some time later this year. Unlike Sonic Mania Adventures, which is freely available on many video platforms, Shadow the Hedgehog Adventures will stream exclusively on SEGA Channel, the company’s new streaming platform that was also announced today.
