Xenocider, a new Dreamcast arcade game, now on Kickstarter
If you are a proud Dreamcast owner and think you won’t see more newly developed games for your old white buddy, think twice.
Xenocider is a 3D shooter arcade game with retro-futuristic ( even if that might sound as an oxymoron) aesthetics heavily based on Space Harrier and influenced by other classic rail-shooters like Galaxy Force and Sin & Punishement, coming soon for the Dreamcast along with PC, MAC, Linux and Nintendo 3DS.
Developed by Retro Sumus, a Spanish indie development team who are big SEGA and Dreamcast fans, this game wants to be an homage to the Sega classic title Space Harrier, whom many consider a sort of Sega core spirit demo. With experienced members like Daniel Lancha ( Chui), Carlos Oliveros and Tulio Gonçalves from Watermelon, who released a few years ago Pier Solar for Mega Drive/Genesis, Dreamcast and digital stores on current gen consoles, you can bet this game is a little gem. Xenocider is now on Kickstarter, where you can help them make this project a reality (although they promise they will release it even if the kickstarter campaign fails, they are pretty committed to it) .
There isn’t many initiatives like this, so if you’re a Dreamcast or Space Harrier fan, take a look and consider pledging for it. They are planning to release the game as a physical format in Dreamcast along with digital version for 3DS and PC/Mac/Linux, so if you’re a Dreamcast Collector it might be interesting to own one of this. You can even play a demo of the game, that you can download at their kickstarter page.
