WSJ Predicts Holiday Success for Sega
Here’s some of the article written (with comments from SegaWeb):
“Sega Enterprises Ltd. is smelling an upset as the holiday season approaches,” says the Wall Street Journal. With Sega expected to ship between 2.2 million to 2.4 million Dreamcast units to retailers this season, Sega should make it to five million consoles sold by early 2001.
Sega has had to step up shipments to meet demand in the wake of Sony’s announced PS2 shortage. Sega has had a 20 percent increase in calls from retailers wishing to co-advertise in local newspapers and circulars. When asked for comment, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Toys R US, and Target representatives would not confirm the numbers, for fear of losing the few PS2 shipments they will be getting this Christmas from Sony.
“This is a huge window of opportunity for Sega”, said Billy Pidgeon, an analyst for Jupiter-Media Metrix Inc. “I wouldn’t say this is good for Dreamcast. This is great for Dreamcast.”
