VectorMan Now Re-Released Under Sega Forever
With more than 50 million downloads of classic Sega titles under its belt, the Sega Forever team last week re-released VectorMan, Sega’s one-time answer to Nintendo’s Donkey Kong Country, onto mobile.
New additions to the Genesis classic include leaderboards, cloud saves, controller support, and a rewind feature. VectorMan is free to play with ads, or you can buy it ad-free for $1.99 or your country’s equivalent.
To mark the release, Sega interviewed Rich Karpp, the creator of VectorMan, in a new feature that you can read here. Below, Sega’s press release follows.
SAN FRANCISCO, LONDON – June 21, 2018 – It’s 2049, and Earth’s cities, forests, and ice caps are fouled with toxic sludge. Humanity has escaped to the stars, leaving mechanical “orbots” to clean up… As of today, VectorMan, the 2D side-scrolling action platformer, joins SEGA Forever, a growing collection of classic SEGA games that are free-to-play (with ad support) for mobile devices.
With a storyline that focuses on saving the planet from toxic pollution and environmental doom, VectorMan – originally published in 1995 for the SEGA Genesis (Mega Drive) – was an early
environmentalist classic. Like the rest of the SEGA Forever collection, VectorMan boasts added features such as leaderboards, cloud saves, controller support, and a rewind feature (activated by watching a rewarded ad) that will prove helpful for players keen on beating all 16 challenging levels.
Over the last year, the SEGA Forever has grown to include 20 classic games – with VectorMan’s launch bringing the total to twenty one – and has reached over 50 million downloads. Each game in the collection (listed below) is available to download for free from the App Store for iPhone and iPad or Google Play Store for Android devices. Players who want to experience the games without ads can remove them for a one-tme in-app purchase priced at $1.99/ €2.29 / £1.99.
