Sony Fights Back: Legal Restrictions in France?

We told you yesterday that top video game retailers in the United States have taken down X-Box promotions in stores as Sony threatened to stop shipping PS2s to those retailers if their demands were not met. The Sonic Scene questioned the legality of this, and we have an answer from an international perspective. We have learned that if Sony tries to do this in France, they will be breaking the law, as companies can not refuse to sell to wholesale distributors. We’re not sure yet on an answer in terms of the legal US system yet…stay tuned.
