Sonicteam.com Transfer a Fraud?
Some fans think so. After a Sonic HQ parody post on the GHZ message board, some fans commented on and questioned Sierra Ranay’s talks with Sega, the Sonic Team, and Yuji Naka. Here is one post from Bo Bayles:
There’s this one saga of stories by some SatAM fan, who claims that she’s spoken to Naka himself to sell her sonicteam.com . One, Naka wouldn’t own that. Two, Naka wouldn’t talk to her. Three, the domain is registered through SimpleNet.
However, the GHZ’s webmaster, Green Gibbon!, disagrees with that a bit:
I dunno, there’s probably truth behind that one. I kinda always figured it was gonna happen eventually. The part I don’t believe is that Naka himself was the one who contacted her…I don’t think he’d have much to do with that (or really care). Some random Sega PR rep, but not Naka-san.
D-H Master, who created the origin of the thread, agreed with Bo:
I also can’t imagine that Naka-san would go into such trouble to retrieve a site domain, and it’s made even more absurd by his claims that he is not only receiving (expletive) of Sonic Team goodies (who’s total retail value racks into the hundreds), but getting a pre-production version of Sonic Shuffle. Sega doesn’t do that for their licensees, much less their fans.
In fact, I found it so ridiculous that I made fun of it in the above post ^_^
Finally, we hear from Tony Nguyen, on this issue:
Actually, if you read the letter sent to Sierra (who used to own Sonicteam.com) it sorta feels sort of Japanese-ish translated into English. And I somewhat doubt Sega would buy the domain name for the Sonic Team, sorta sounds like something Sonic Team would do for themselves =\
Keep in mind that the Sonic Team is financially independent from Sega right now, so this could only be for Sonic Team. Then again, why is Sega helping out in the deal? Check out our new poll @ the Public Scene and voice your opinion.
