Sonic Movie To Hit $265M+ Global Ticket Sales Sunday
International fans and families are stepping up, and now they collectively are carrying the Sonic movie ever closer toward a secured sequel.
Box Office Mojo now projects that by the end of today, Sonic will have shattered the quarter of a billion dollar ceiling, and have accumulated a total worldwide box office gross of $265,493,652.
That number comes even as the film did not debut in China this weekend as planned due to the continued shutdown of movie theaters in the region in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus. It also comes as Sonic is set to relinquish the top domestic box office spot this weekend to the debut of The Invisible Man.
Sonic is expected to run $16 million in ticket sales for the weekend in North America, still good for second overall.
The international tally now accounts for more than half of Sonic’s overall gross.
The $300 million global mark, which would all but guarantee the film is profitable when factoring in marketing costs, appears to be an easy goal for Sonic going into next weekend, when a new Pixar film, Onward, will debut.
