Sonic Corner Shutting Down for Good
JD Harding posted his final update earlier today, unfortunately due to technical problems I can not bring it to you. It looks like this is it. Goodbye to The Sonic Corner, considered the most respected Sonic music site on the Internet.
1 PM EST: Well, friends, it looks like TSC is down to bare bones-the main site, and the E-Mail page are the only areas that still stand. JD posted an update this morning thanking everyone who tried to cheer him up. However, he does not want to receive any E-Mail about TSC, or his music, in any form. It looks like this will be one of the final updates for the site. As you know, TSSZ has assumed the role of carrying on updates for TSC’s MIDI archive, right here at Sega Zone. You can go to the main page for more info.
7.10 11 PM EST: At 7PM this evening, JD posted this update, saying that he has close his account with Simplenet, and TSC will be gone in less than two weeks’ time:
Just a little note here. I’m not shutting TSC down because of what happened with this.. girl. That’s about the nicest word I can call her at the moment. 😉 I’m shutting it down because, well with work, music, mucks, and the fact that I have no RL life, and I’d like to get one (how much do those cost nowadays? =P) I’d just like to shut TSC down. TSC is a full time job with updates and new files coming in. I just don’t have the time to scan the database and insert each music file anymore. I’m not leaving the Sonic community or something. The Sonic community is fine. I’m not angry at it, or pissed off at anyone in particular. I just feel the archive would be better suited in someone else’s hands who can actually update the place.
…Anyway, I gotta go. I did close my account with Simplenet, so this site will cease to exist like.. on the 20th, or something. I dunno. Ciao.
We will continue to keep you updated on the final days on TSC, and we’ll tell you who will be continuing with the archive.
1 PM EST: Last night, JD Harding posted this sad bit of news on the main site. Note: This is the unedited version before JD reposted this without as much language:
I was.. hurt pretty badly today emotionally. A friend whom I thought wanted to be my girlfriend didn’t want me. She and I knew each other for a couple years, and today she basically told me where to get off. This is effecting me pretty badly. I’ve decided to stop all maintenance and updates on TSC. I’ve closed down several sections, removed information files, and basically kept ONLY the main MIDI archive. I don’t want to hear any crap about what I’ve done. I’m sick of the internet and I want out. Perhaps even die, who knows. I’ve been the asshole of the Sonic community anyway, and I doubt anyone will even give a shit if I do disappear. So I’m out of here.
This is very, very sad news. On a more personal note, I’ve had the same thing happen to me, several times, so I can feel his pain. Early this morning, a second part was released saying that he will give the MIDI archive away:
I feel a little better now, though it’s late at night and I’m groggy right now. Yesterday was a pretty awful day. But, I pulled myself out of the ditch I fell into.
TSC is another story. I realize now that this site gives me no joy, pride, or happiness. It sits here, rots, and goes without updates. I basically am tired of maintaining it. But instead of shutting it down and completely destroying it, I’ve come to a conclusion that may just make everyone happy. I wish to give the site to another Sonic site. Yes, for free. I collected and created the archive, and now I wish to give it away and be done with it. No, the server and URL cannot be given away. Just the design and MIDI files.
Why? I want to build a Sonic based MUCK. It’s been my dream for the past 3 years to build one. It’s been my dream even before TSC went online! The name TSC may die, but the archive can live on in someone else’s hands.
But who to give it to? It must be a deserving Sonic site. Popular, productive, and special. The webmasters know what they’re doing. However, once I give it away, I will not help set it up elsewhere. I will disappear until the day my Sonic MUCK is born. Till then, I will work on my music. It’s all I have left.
If you think your site is worthy enough to get TSC’s large MIDI collection, send me an email. I’ll review your site. Saying “Pretty pretty please?!” isn’t going to help my decision any.
We will continue to follow these developments as they become available.
