Sonic Corner Plans Include Return to Legal MP3s
JD Harding has made the official announcement:
With the destruction of the original MP3 archive, which had possibly contained a few illegal mp3s that I was unaware of, I have since thought of a way to bring back mp3 music to this site. For a long time I had searched for a way to not only bring back mp3s, but excellent quality music that can be freely downloaded without cost and isn’t illegal.
You might be thinking that I’m talking about the MIDI Archive, and yes that’s part of it. There are so many different ways of listening to MIDI files, and so many different qualities of sound with MIDI. So for awhile I’ve looked for possible solutions, and I believe I’ve found one!
I have a Yamaha XG soundcard now. I recieved it today, and installed it, and it has wonderful MIDI capabilities. With this soundcard I can playback MIDIs, and record them in digital sound with 16-bit instruments and absolutely no mess-ups. I can then save the recordings as MP3 and store those files here. It’s totally legal! I can take MIDI files from this site and record them, then add the new mp3s to the site.
But then I thought “Well why would anyone want a recorded version of a MIDI?”. So I decided that any MIDIs that are to be recorded will be changed to XG MIDIs by me before I record them. This way the sound will be excellent!
However, there’s one note I must tell everyone. These MP3s can not be used on other sites, they cannot be linked to, and they certainly cannot be copied and made into CDs, altered, or sold in any way, shape, or form. The MP3s will be copywritten to TSC as a part of TSC. You will only be allowed to download them freely from this site and listen to them.
JD has also announced a “Sonic Alliance” type plan. No details on what he’s going to do, but I’ll tell you as soon as those details become public.
