Sonic Boom Street Date Broken
The cat’s out of the bag now. Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric has had its street date broken.
A YouTube Lets Player has been uploading a co-op run of the game. Everything from the cutscenes to the gameplay has been coming out.
I won’t be linking to the leak nor spoil anything on what happens in the game but this is a warning to anyone trying to avoid Sonic Boom spoilers. Things just got more difficult.
UPDATE: The same has happened to Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal on 3DS. A YouTube Lets Player has been uploading a run of the game. Meanwhile the co-op run of Rise of Lyric has been removed by SEGA.
This post was originally written by the author for TSSZ News.
“Two Days before release.”
Actually it’s about a Week for the U version. The 3DS version is out in 2 days.
Also, I saw the playthrough, only two parts in there’s LAG EVERYWHERE, and there’s a game-breaking glitch that pretty much confirms the game to be 06-tier broken and glitchy. The camera’s pretty bad too. For some reason the cutscenes have better graphics than the actual game, making me think that they were pre-rendered on a PC, rather than in-game footage. Oh and Shadow’s in-game model is a literal re-skin of Sonic. His quills on his head are barely changed. Seriously guys, stay away from Rise of Lyric. Shattered Crystal seems fine enough, but Rise of Lyric seems to be turning out to be Sonic 06 Part 2. It’s pretty damn bad. It’s released as an unfinished alpha like 06. I’m being dead serious, not trolling. For the love of all that is holy, don’t buy this version of the game. Either stick to the 3DS version or skip it all together and just watch the show.
Where have you been in the past month?.. Rise of Lyric AND Shattered Crystal both release on the 11th.
They do? Well, shit. Haven’t been paying too much attention to this game; news-wise.
The Wii u version was moved up to Nov. 11 a few months ago. Also, I’M SEEING ZERO LAG IN THIS LET’S PLAY.
Wait til you get to Part 2. It starts lagging up in the hub quite a bit.
That looked more like the framerate acting up on them (according to this one commenter, the game runs smoothly in solo mode but the co-op mode has a few framerate problems).
Both the Wii U and 3DS versions are releasing November 11th in North America; the 21st in Europe. And prerendered cutscenes are very common, nothing new, especially for the Sonic franchise.
I’m still getting both myself. I’m not doubting that their going to be bad, but we’ll get to find that out for ourselves soon enough.
Geez! I hope you are wrong. You probably understand why. But again, why being denial?
This was last thing i wanted to hear right now. But thank you for informing about this. Sooner i know, sooner i get over it.
Might still buy game though. Cause why not? I like finding new ways to launch characters into space.
Why the 3DS version? From what I’ve played in the demo, it’s slow, clunky, has weird physics, everyone plays the same save for one special move, continues the annoying “run button” feature from Lost World, the level design is flat and boring and the Enerbeam is forced in and breaks the flow of the game, not to mention the “Spin Dash” in here is even WORSE than that of Lost World 3DS. It’s like it’s trying to be a 2D Sonic game, but at the same time it’s not. I’d much rather have a straight up brawler. Then again, I’m one that played 06 and thinks that it’s not the worst Sonic game I’ve played (Sonic Blast on Game Gear and Chronicles say hi)
There’s a Spin Dash?
Yes, there is, I remember doing it by accident.
Eyup, use Sonic and press the X button I believe whist standing still. It’s even worse than Lost World’s version of the Spin Dash, it’s slow and feels like it’s glued to the ground, so you can’t pull anything like you could do in the standard 2D Sonic games or the SA1 and 2 versions of the Spin Dash. Practically pointless since the sprint button moves you even faster than that and is infinite.
Out of curiosity, what are your opinions on Generations and LW 3DS?
Gens 3DS felt like a very cheap cash-in to the main console version, but I have to say they did emulate the classic physics for Classic Sonic almost near exactly like the Genesis games, even more so than the console version, Modern Sonic sadly more plays like console style Sonic than the Rush era Sonic, which I don’t mind completely, but I would have liked a tad more Rush influence in his gameplay by maybe including Rush’s version of the trick system. I’m mostly unhappy with the levels that got in. The Adventure games didn’t need to be in there, it should have been the Advance games since it was trying to represent the Handheld classics like say Music Plant or Route 99, and I’d say that maybe the Game Gear games could have had been in there instead of Casino Night and Mushroom Hill, but I did like how those stages turned out. Colors didn’t need a stage in there, and if you were going to, at least put in a stage from Rush Adventure as well, Sky Babylon or Haunted Ship would have been perfect choices.
Most of the rival races are rather crap tho, Metal Sonic’s race is the easiest race in the entire game and is utterly barren besides one little pit that you can easily escape, Shadow’s cheap but at least has a bit more than Metal Sonic’s, and Silver had a decently fun race, but overall, the races don’t hold my interest. Why not actual Rival Battles against different characters? Classic Knuckles should have been the Classic era rival, Emerl or Gemerl could have had a fight made new for the Advance era, (or at least a more detailed Shadow battle), and Blaze without a doubt SHOULD have been the Modern Rush era rival. The boss battles are a little better, Big Arms has an epic remix for being the easiest boss in the entire game, The Biolizard fight actually is better than the original version in SA2 imo, Egg Emperor is also rather fun to fight (haven’t beaten Heroes completely so I can’t say if he’s better or worse than the original fight) and Time Eater is FAR SUPERIOR to it’s cheap and lazy console counterpart.
Gens 3DS could have been FAR better than how it ended up if they develved more into the games that inspired what made Sonic so popular on handhelds.
For Lost World 3DS, I haven’t played it too much, but from what I did play, the parkour system was okay I guess, the Spin Dash felt a bit more true to the Classic/Adventure style one, but still not there, it’s at least more useful than Shattered Crystal’s pathetic excuse for a Spin Dash. The Homing Attack was something I could never really get used to, on paper it’s a cool idea to have Sonic attack multiple targets with one button press, but often I’ll hit a target that was behind me if the attack has another targeted enemy that went off screen, the run button in here had a bit of flow to it, but when not in use, it felt like my speed was being held back and not in the good way, not to mention in the air, the jumps completely ignore the Run button and you could send yourself flying by holding the circle pad forward too much if you’re not careful on more platforming-heavy sections. The Wisps, I still don’t like, so nothing I can really say about that that’s changed between this and any other game with them. The last thing I’ll say about the 3DS version is that the cutscenes were REALLY badly compressed, like, even on the original DS I’ve seen better quality cutscene videos on there.
LOL, nope, still getting it. 😛
Is it possible to link where you saw this playthrough?

Sonic 06 was a big scar on the Sonic Franchise!
This game may be a failure, but calling it the second part of Sonic 06 is too much of an overstatement.
First of all Sonic 06 was a main series Sonic game, Sonic Boom is a spinoff title so that automatically makes a failure of this game irrelevant in my opinion to anybody who has common sense.
Even Shadow the Hedgehog the game was a main series title.
The two story book games Secret Rings and Black Knight were spinoffs.
Not to mention you’re forgetting that this isn’t a Reboot it’s just a new branch of the series similar to how the Comics are from the Main Series games.

Something happened that made me print my comment Twice!
What a Twist!
I’m disappointed in the amount of hate that the game is getting in the comments right now, I found the leak video on YouTube just to see, and the comments are horrendously negative. *sigh* I was so excited, pre-ordered and everything a few weeks ago.. I’m afraid to be very let down.. I’ve been waiting for these two games (and the show of course) ever since they were first announced… :c
Don’t listen to them. Everyone has their own opinions.
Well, even die-hard Sonic fans are giving up on this sub-departure. Why?
Because some of us die-hard fans are very seasoned and experienced with Sonic well enough to know when to be excited, and when not to be. This is unfortunately not something to be excited for. TV show is fun though.
Considering the guys doing the LP randomly fell out of the game when trying to hit a spring, and you’re stick in a black pit of nothingness until you restart, I can’t blame them. Face it, mang, it was released unfinished, sadly. As much as I disliked Boom, I didn’t expect things to turn out this bad. Just… wow. I’m not even mad, I’m just.. depressed. At least Shattered Crystal seems kinda fun, right? That’s something!
*stuck in a black pit
Speaking of bad grammar…. http://i.imgur.com/NqMm814.jpg
Sweet merciful Chaos… if that made it through testing…
I know games can be patched post-release nowadays, but letting errors like that through is on the verge of unforgivable.
Hopefully the actual dialogue isn’t like that either..
I’ve seen a few games with subtitle errors like this, but the dialogue was correct.
Good lord… This looks NOTHING like what I’ve been seeing.
Freedom Planet has quite a funny typo (can’t find the screenshot I posted over on the FP forum though), yet the voice clip is correct. But the budget for that is at least 800 times smaller than that for Sonic Boom, and there was only one developer and a handful of volunteer testers. So for just one typo to make it through is actually not bad at all.
Rise of Lyric though… surely there must have been about 15-20 devs, and a similar number (or more) of testers, all on payroll. Yet not one spotted this one.
Actually, that happened when they jumped the level boundary.
Somebody always gets the new Sonic game earlier than expected I find
Back in 2012, I got Sonic Transformed 2 days early without pre-order, so it is possible. Haha.
@RaceProUK Hey, who knows? There might be a day one patch.
All we can do is hope.
Still no excuse for such basic errors. I’m a developer by trade (not games though, accountancy software); I’m not perfect, but I at least test as I develop. And you can’t say that BRB’s testing team isn’t big enough to spot such simple issues. You don’t even need a trained tester, just a proof-reader.
Day one patches are just an excuse peddled by lazy studios that don’t do enough quality control.
Okay… I don’t think Sonic Boom is a bad game, because when I see the first 30 minutes gameplay, I was becoming exited for the story, something about “thousand years in that prison” really make me want more, but, I really don’t think the game is “perfect” because there’s much to do about the physics and etc… I can’t think about Sonic 06 because:
1. Is a spin-off, don’t get mad about.
2. Sonic 2006 is very, very, VERY bad (physics, story, characters design)
3. Sonic Boom looks like very good if you think about Sonic 2006
4. Sonic 2006 is bad :v
Well, the game itself is pretty cool and good, if have something like lags it’s not too much and it’s not a fault of the console (is a fault of the engine program), I will buy when I found the game in my city but I was expecting that Sonic Boom is something like this.
@RaceproUK: https://twitter.com/Cobanermani456/status/531579490024292352 They used texture assets from SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG. You had ONE job, BRB.
I wouldn’t be so quick to declare that; the screenshots chosen don’t make for adequate proof to my eyes. But if it is true…
Tomoki, shut up.
You seem so quick to trash this game whenever chance you get. It’s not perfect, but it looks nowhere near as bad as 06. The worst thing I’ve noticed about this game is the graphics.
And the cartoon is pretty good.
Seriously, you’re just being a major bummer.
Tomoki is trashing the game because all the evidence points to it being a steaming pile of garbage. And based on what I’ve seen, I agree with that assessment.
“Shut up because you don’t like something I want to like” is what you’re saying.
Face the music, the game’s unfinished, unpolished, lazy, and it’ll be yet another steaming pile to leave a black mark on the franchise’s already tainted reputation.
Well there’s some people on this site (100Rings) who have had a negative bias against Boom from the get-go and are simply not willing to give it a chance and will immediately jump on anything they can find just to trash the game.
I myself have had doubts about the Boom franchise. I hated the redesigns, but eventually I got used to it. The graphics in Boom Wii-U do look pretty bad, but to accuse the developers of re-using asessts from Shadow the Hedgehog? Seriously? Look, I know Sega’s made some dumb business moves, and the game’s not perfect, but that’s an idiotic accusation to make. The game is over ten years old, and from a system two generations old. Even Sega wouldn’t do something that dumb.
Boom looks more fun than games like Lost World, Colors and 06 so I wouldn’t consider it horrible. Not perfect, but not as bad as people say.
And the story is interesting. Just got finished watching a few cutscenes on YouTube. Character interaction is great.
This whole conversation is one of those times where I wonder if people should just keep their negative opinions to themselves so it doesn’t cause any problems with other people.
That’s your opinion, and don’t pair me up with 100Rings, I’m not *quite* as bitter and cynical as him yet. I personally think the game looks like a boring, tedious, slow, repetitive, jarring mess. And people who own the game are comparing the textures to Shadow the Hedgehog. They say it has PS2 quality graphics. The cutscenes AREN’T the in-game graphics, either. There’s quite a few major bugs and camera problems too. The Hub worlds are lifeless and dull with a whole lot of nothing to do, and you can’t even run fast in ’em. Also, I gave Boom 3DS a chance, and it was okay. The Wii U version just doesn’t look fun at all to me. I’m expressing my opinion, and warning folks before purchasing the game to go in with lower expectations, if they weren’t already. I can’t tell you to not buy the game, but I feel people should know what they’re getting into before purchasing.
Chris, while yes some people hate the game from the get go, since it’s reveal we’ve gotten quite a few trailers, screenshots, gameplay footage and live coverage of the game. Most of us here have seen enough of the game to judge it. While 100Rings is at times harsh at the Boom Franchise, I agree with him for the most part (Not Including the bashing the people who actually like the game). I honestly believe that these games are set to fail and for a good reason. They don’t bring anything new to the table, the gameplay is boring and god damn the controls are awful, The character designs (Except Amy’s) are just not too good. When they actually try to add a new villain it turns it out that he’s just as bad as he’s only a snake version of Eggman with the exact same goal. I don’t find the Boom Games appealing and I don’t see myself buying them. The Tv show is an entirely different story one I’m willing to give a chance since I actually enjoyed the Pilot. Regardless of any game, there will be someone who will have a negative opinion. You cannot control how they see a game especially since we’ve had plenty of samples of what it will be like.
Yes, yes, Tomoki we get it. Game slow, game tedious, game boring, game has problems, game bad! Why don’t you just knock it off? I don’t see how you can have such a negative opinion of a game when you clearly haven’t played it or watched a proper walkthrough (which has yet to appear) on Youtube. I really do think that you need to be quiet and keep your opinions to yourself because you have made it clear that you have been bias towards Sonic Boom already.
Tomoki has valid reasons to be disappointed. This game is looking pretty bad.
Indeed. The sad part is to see all these fanboys protecting that piece of garbage that will lead Sonic to ruin.
oh sure TSSZ!!!! You totally would want to tell THIS stupid news instead of THIS sonic news!!! GREAT JOB GUYS! (if you’d haven’t realized already, im being sarcastic.)
guys, find the new news at tssz. it’s sonic boom themed 3ds backgrounds!!!
I’m confused. Are you happy with the article or not? lol
This game looks pretty Horri-bad-errible
Meh if I was truly hopeful for this to be good I would be shocked. Well at least I can imagine sharing a bad experience with friends rather than being completely bored playing the 3ds version. That’s a perk I guess, friends make everything better except with Mario party.
Now that I think about this, most kids who will buy the wiiu version will be a little bit less social…… Poor child.
oops! i meant sonic stadium 🙂
The cutscenes can be really, really odd. Just look at this:
http://imgur.com/vQ7iCpe
I watched the first batch of cutscenes on YouTube. Anyone got a complete set of cutscenes to watch?
Normally I wouldn’t spoil myself like this, but I don’t own a Wii-U, and don’t have any desire to, so I likely won’t ever play the actual game.
Okay.. I just love how in the poll on the right the top vote is “Buying the Wii U version” yet, the majority of the comments here are simply negative? Why? God damn, the game isn’t even out yet and people are judging it so! I understand that everyone has their own opinions, but how in the world can you have an opinion 2 days before release? 2 days after, sure!.. but before? What is everyone’s issue?.. If you haven’t yet understood, this is not the SEGA Sonic, and this is only a spin-off.. All you butt-hurt, so called “seasoned Sonic fans” say that this game is garbage just because it’s different.. Honestly, if your boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife, decided to cut their hair, or do something with it, would you call them garbage just because a feature is different? Think about it. BigRedButton and Sanzaru Games are very professional game development companies, and anyone’s first intention is if they’re going to make something, they’re gonna make it worth while. Why make a game with a goal to make it horrible in the end? Sonic 2006 was glitchy and messy because it was RUSHED. The only real reason it didn’t live up to it’s intentions. If SEGA and the developers had more time, I’m sure it would have turned out to be the Sonic Adventure 3 we truly wanted. Now, it’s kind of a stretch, but it’s true if you think about it. This fan-base is really bipolar, the fans want something new and different, they get something new, then yet they turn around and start complaining about how bad it will be.
I’m not a recent Sonic fan, nor a seasoned one.
Hate me if you will, but I’m giving Sonic Boom a chance.
“I understand that everyone has their own opinions”
…Clearly you don’t if you feel the need to go one a mini rant because people have their own opinions.
I gave Boom a chance, and it failed to keep my interest. It’s my opinion, deal with it.
I respect your opinion and others, I’m just stating mine, no harm done. Thanks.
Man, even if the 3ds version gets awesome scores, people are going to still be judging the Wii U version instead.
But yeah, the Wii U one looks sloppy. Certainly doesn’t go to ’06 levels of bad, but the graphics and music are pretty mishmash. Gameplay looks like it’s decent, and the writing and story seems pretty decent.
Take shelter, everyone. The fanbase is about to go into another civil war.
what do you mean about to it’s always in civil war because for the most part our fanbase is so picky and judgemental (most likely due to 06 causing vast scars) that they are never satisfied
they could bring out Sonic Adventure 3 goldplated super special edition with the first two adventure games completely remastered and a coupon for 100 chilli dogs for free and this fanbase would still complain about every teensy tiny detail and then the very next day after release they’ll be like “so when’s Sonic Adventure 4 coming out”
(Someone Posts Negative Comment about Sonic Boom)
Fanboy: Yo Shut the hell up you piece of shit! You haven’t even played or seen a playthrough of the game yet so you have no right to judge this!
Me: I love how you get so BUTTHURT over a opinion that SHOULD NOT impact your enjoyment of a game. Just because he doesn’t enjoy Sonic Boom does not mean you should backlash him for doing so. He has the right to criticize the game as should you and I. I Don’t give a shit if he hasn’t played the game yet, if he doesn’t like it he DOESNT LIKE IT. Don’t try to force your own god damn opinion on someone for not liking the same thing as you.
To everyone at Tssznews, there shouldn’t be any reason to backlash at someone for having a different opinion as yours. We all have DIFFERENT TASTES. Clearly some of the people here lack the brain cells to understand this. We’ve seen enough of Sonic Boom to form our own opinions on it. So why the hell is it so hard to accept another person’s view on the game? Yes Negativity is a bad thing to some extend, but if it isn’t used to attack someone but rather bring criticism to improve something that’s totally fine. But God Damn some of the commentators here seriously need a smack in the brain to understand this. Seriously. Do not let someone else’s opinion ruin your enjoyment out of something. We’re all different.
Well said, man. Some Sonic fans come from a weird, one mind set land.
The game looks like shit
The gameplay looks boring
Shadow looks more like a recolor now
The framerate is a complete joke
And for being a game that use cryengine 3 this is just mediocre
Been out of the Sonic Boom game loop for a while (started following the cartoon news again as of about three days ago) after a two month break. So, why is this game good and why is this game bad? Everyone, hurry and reply and I will reward the winning side with… hmm… 50 rings and 7 chaos emeralds. 🙂 Ready? Go!
Why the game is bad:
-Terrible performance; you need to play single player just to have a stable framerate.
-Co-Op is laggy and requires you to turn off all the Shadows and Lighting effects, and lower the textures to make everything look like a PS2 game.
-Cutscenes are poorly animated and have A LOT of awkward poses and errors.
-Poor audio mixing; you can’t hear what characters are saying at times.
-Several game-breaking bugs that make you fall out of the game Sonic 06 style
-Grammar and spelling errors in subtitles.
-Audio is also buggy, sometimes you’ll just hear loud noises and sometimes lines will get stuck in a loop.
-Combat is repetitive and offers no variety.
-Levels range from 20-40 minutes in length.
-Puzzles are tedious
-Hub is huge, but there’s no life in it.
-NPCs border in Uncanny Valley territory
-Everyone is slower than snails in the game, outside of the automated running sections
-Automated running sections are basically a glorified temple run rip off with no challenge.
-Terrible collision detection
-Knuckles is painfully stupid. Like, straight up mentally challenged.
-Shadow is a literal recolor of Sonic in the game. His model is barely changed from Sonic’s.
-In-game graphics aren’t as good as the cutscenes’ graphics, meaning they were pre-rendered, and even then, the animation is again, poor and inconsistent.
I can go on and on all day, but you get the point. Anyway this is my last post in this thread.
What a bummer you are. It’s like you WANT to ruin people’s opinions.
@SilverSonic44: I will have to agree with you. Tomoki is needlessly nitpicking. I saw the leaked part 1 cutscenes and they weren’t at all bad like Tomoki is saying. Sonic Heroes and Sonic ’06 had truly bad cutscenes. Here, I did not see too many spelling mistakes in the subtitles; the camera view and character animation were well implemented; and Knuckles was silly (lol’ed when he used his hands to figure out left and right), not stupid; and audio mixing was more than decent (I own several audiophile headphones so I know what I’m talking about). Honestly, it sounds like Tomoki is rehashing the same old complaints about the beta version of the game we heard about several months back.
A list of faults that long, and you think it’s acceptable?
Yeah, no, it just isn’t.
@Hifihedgehog: Exactly. Some of these aren’t even 100% true. Glad this is Tomoki’s last post here.
Well, after seeing the playthrough going on, i can think i can say that this game was exactly like i thought it would be: A generic Ps2 platformer with Sonic’s name slapped over it. 3 parts in, still not impressed.
Framerates problems, ugly graphics, dull looking combat, gameplay that looks like every other licensed Ps2 action-adventure platformer game.
I’am a pretty long time Sonic fan.
I have the 3DS version since yesterday… I’ve done half of the game and from my point of view: IT’S A GOOD GAME! really! It is polished, well balanced, etc… For example, it’s kind of looks like Castlevania mirror of fate… But Sonic Boom 3DS is far far better!
BUT it is A BAD SONIC GAME. The design is bad, the sound is awful… The controls has nothing to do with a Sonic Game. There is no physics, so spin dash, speed sections are fully automatic.
As an old Sonic fan, it is really difficult to judge this game.
I feel like Sega wants to renew the Sonic fan base with this game. I want my Sonic back please!!!!
You’re only catching on now? 😛 😉
Even since the Lost World they were “renewing the fanbase”
I’m just trying to think: who’s had more regenerations, Sonic or Doctor Who? 🙂
I look at these comments and think “Sonic Lost World did not save and now this? Does SEGA will overcome, calling for a new console or do new steps even being just a spin-off?” Honestly I do not think it’s the fault of the Wii U, but is a fault of the company, the last time I agreed with Sonic was in 2010 and so far only attempts and nothing by far not see a Sonic Adventure 3, definitely they are not prepared for it.
(Sorry for bad english, brazil is here \o/)

http://www.p4rgaming.com/sega-criticizes-sonic-boom-spin-off-says-sonic-team-should-be-the-only-ones-allowed-to-ruin-sonic/
Feels logic and very true :v but thinking about, Sonic Team really, never looks like do these games like Sonic boom, but still, is this a fake thing.
Could be.
A guy in the comments of the article said the interview is fake.
That site is a satire site it’s not real.
^This. A well-written but obnoxious gaming tabloid.
This looks extremely fake.
It is extremely fake 😉
Even though it seems believable, it’s just too silly of an article to be real. XD
That YouTube Lets Player’s co-op run of the game has recently been taken down by Sega of America. lol
Probably for leaking. SEGA is known for doing that whenever a game gets leaked before release.
I can upload a downloaded copy for anyone interested. 😉
You know, what confuses me about Boom is the fact that the TV series doesn’t come for another year in other countries and the games come out this week (correct me if I am wrong). How is anyone who doesn’t know much about Boom supposed to do? Won’t they be confused about the spinoff?
Strategies like these make me wonder how Boom will fare in other countries.
I can aswer this question for Sonic Brazil fan-base: “””Worst””” Sonic game ever for some fans and for others (3% I think…), there’s a good explain for everything in the game, like bugs and characters design.
Why the hell is Sonoc Boom not in the Eshop? It was suppose to come out today. What crap.
Here, people. No need to thank me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion
Seriously, though. Some will like the game, some don’t. Cant we all just accept each others point of view?
