Sonic Adventure 2 is at E3

Some new information about the state of SA2 from IGN’s Anoop Gantayat:

In a press release issued today, which Sega claims marks the tenth anniversary of the blue hedgehog, Sega revealed first official details on the game, along with a general release time frame.

In Sega’s own words, Sonic Adventure 2 will “build upon the storyline of the first incarnation, but with some new challenges for Sonic and his friends in their ongoing battles against Dr. Robotnik.” Okay, so it’s not very specific, but hey – they’re just getting started with the hype machine. It also appears that the game will feature improved 3D graphics, all new characters, and new worlds as well. Again, more unspecific talk, but we can already begin to use our imagination to think up a title that is to Sonic Adventure what Sonic 2 was to Sonic 1.

Perhaps the best news out of Sega would have to be that Yuji Naka himself, one of the founding fathers of the Sonic franchise, is laying a hand in the development. We’re not sure of the capacity of Naka’s involvement, as he’s also working on Phantasy Star Online, but certainly any assistance would go a long way towards ensuring that the project stay on the uppity up of quality.

We unfortunately have some sad news to report. Sega’s press release states that the game won’t arrive in the US until next year. However, it is apparently being shown behind closed doors here at E3. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we have some “closed doors” to go searching for.

We just stopped back at the Sega booth for another round of “What can we pry?” and this time we hit the motherload. Running into our kind Sega “informant”, we began another round of Q&A about what games would be displayed that weren’t currently running at the booth. After much back and forth banter concerning the Dreamcast mascot’s appearance, the truth finally slipped out.

You see, it was at that time that we were told that Brandon’s “little buddy” (direct quote) would be making an appearance at the show. For those who have never seen Brandon’s “little buddy” (and it is little), feel free to click here.

That’s right, as you can tell by our headline, the little buddy is none other than Sonic himself. The game? Sonic Adventure 2. It’s coming, and you can bet your bottom dollar that we’ll be on the scene to cover its entire unveiling.
