Sonic Advance Comes To Japanese Wii U eShop Next Week
Virtual Console Sonic games are finally heading to the next generation of Nintendo.
Sonic Advance will be available for purchase on the Wii U eShop in Japan on February 18th. The game is 200 MB in size and will cost ¥702, the equivalent of $5.90 or £3.90.
There was no news on a western release of the game or whether Sonic Advance‘s sequels would be coming to the eShop as well.

But why WiiU instead of 3DS?
Cuz GBA games are only on the Wii U e-shop,that applies to all GBA games not just Sonic
It’s a start, still hoping for both Rush games landing on there as well as the rest of the GBA games,
Agreed! All those Dimps games were great and I would also add Sonic Battle and Sonic Chronicles to the collection.
Agreed indeed.
…What about on the 3DS? I’ve been waiting for it to show up on the 3DS eShop…
Spent all this time getting the Advance series and a Retron 5 to play them on the tv…then this happens.
Oh my…
What did they do to the game? The rom-file’s size is <3MB, but the VC-release is 200MB in size? Dafuq?
Holy shit! Hopefully is an HD version!
lolno. Wii U’s Virtual Console does that for some reason. Probably the size of the packed in emulation software n’ whatnot.
Aww, a real shame then, in that aspect I would love if Sega put more effort on the titles they relaunch, like the remastered Sonic Genesis titles for mobiles and unlike the Adventure titles for Steam and virtual console stores.
They added features to the rom, in order for it to work on the Wii U. They had to script it to work on the Wii U gamepad, with synchronized sound and visuals, from the tv to the gamepad, the game lets you customize the Wii U gamepad’s controls, in order to play the game to the player’s preference, players can make a reset save point, and the game will have a filter option to smooth the pixel edges of the game’s graphics. It’s increased size isn’t much of a shocker at all.
Japan gets everything…
Back in my day Sonic Advance games cost $32.46 and were easy to drop on the floor.
Well this will certainly make getting the Chaos Emeralds easier.
….never did figure out the actual method to that one thing in the special stages but I somehow got it.
I don’t really buy virtual versions of games I have physical, but when Advance 3 and Battle come out they will have my money.
Finally, a GOOD Sonic game on the Wii U!
