SOE Considering Monthly Fees for Internet Access
Sonikku of Sonic Team Junior sent me this interesting piece of information. He got a call from a Sega of Europe rep yesterday, and what was asked could be a major part of Sega’s strategy in Europe:
I was called by a Sega of Europe rep yesterday who gave me a quick poll. It seems like SoE is considering monthly fees rather than local call charges.
While the offer sounded pretty interesting at first, I was quickly brought down to earth by the prices. For about £19.99 ($25-28?) you get about 30 hours of time on the Net. This isn’t strictly going to be the final cost, but that sounds way too expensive to me, it only saves a little more money than paying the current local rate phone costs. Perhaps SoE is going to consider a similar plan to SoA’s online strategy.
The plan makes sense, with SegaNet and Sega.Com soon to be a reality in the states. But for nearly 30 US dollars for only 30 hours of access, it may seem too much. On the other hand, most major ISPs offer unlimited access for 20 US dollars here in the United States. Sonikku says he’ll give more information if and when he receives another call, so stay tuned.
