Poll: 64% Believe Sonic Lost World Wii U Will Sell More than 3DS
Even though some estimates put the current Nintendo 3DS userbase at close to 10 to 1 over the Wii U, the latest TSSZ @Issue poll indicates nearly two thirds of respondents believe Sonic Lost World will perform better on the latter.
Of some 1,008 votes cast in the poll, 64 percent said Lost World on Wii U will sell better, while 36 percent said the 3DS version would beat the home console counterpart out.
There will be plenty of time for both versions of Lost World to make a mark, with Sega and Nintendo electing for an earlier October release in the hopes of not having to compete with both major console launches and major game launches around the Holiday season.
A new poll is now available to vote on. The above poll results can be discussed below in the comments.
I figured these would be the results of the poll as the Wii U version just looks to be the better version, but that doesn’t mean anything when so few people have a Wii U in comparison to how many people have a 3DS.
I own both systems and intend to get the Wii U version, and if I’m aching for more I’ll pick up the 3DS version afterwards, but no doubt in my mind the 3DS version will outsell the Wii U version until maybe December when I think the Wii U sales will really pick up what with all the games coming out and Christmas.
I don’t see that changing it because the 3DS is a cheaper and a much more viable platform for consumers (especially parents) it and it’s games will outsell easily Wii U this holiday. The only ways out of this are a price drop and/or cool bundles.
For me I will definitely be purchasing the Wii U version of Sonic Lost World. It looks like Sega has put so much work and dedication into it that it is a must have for any Sonic fan. This game was one of the deciding factors in me buying a Wii U Deluxe Version. But I might purchase the 3DS version as well too do to the fact that the 3DS version of the game will have Special Stages. I just don’t get it, why doesn’t Sega allow the main console games to have Special Stages??!?!!?!?
“The just-world hypothesis (or just-world fallacy) is the cognitive bias that human actions eventually yield morally fair and fitting consequences, so that, ultimately, noble actions are duly rewarded and evil actions are duly punished. In other words, the just-world hypothesis is the tendency to attribute consequences to, or expect consequences as the result of, an unspecified power that restores moral balance; the fallacy is that this implies (often unintentionally) the existence of such a power in terms of some cosmic force of justice, desert, stability, or order in the universe.”
Uh… are you sure you didn’t post in the wrong place?
My opinion on the poll is that the 3DS version will sell more simply because there are more 3DS’s around. I know I’m getting it for sure.
Just-world fallacy explains exactly why 64% choose Wii U in the poll in spite of reality.
It’s honestly a bit of a toss up for me personally. The Wii U version definitely looks like the “better” version, but it’s sales potential may be hindered by its install base. Meanwhile the 3DS has a much larger install base, but the game comes out ten days after Pokemon X/Y, which may definitely hurt sales, so it’s honestly really hard to tell.
Most people will vote for the version that looks cooler, because they’re incapable of truly looking at it objectively. Instead, the poll ends up being nothing more than a popularity contest telling which version the majority prefers.
I don’t see Lost World U selling much when it’s out. It probably will have it’s spike in sales as soon as Mario 3D World comes out.
I’d say give the U version until Mario Kart 8 has been out. By then the install base will have grown substantially, and all the Sonic lovers will be able to pick up Lost World U.
For awhile, I think the 3DS version will sell more, but in the long run, I think the U version will come out on top.
Do you think subconsciously it could be a case of Dimps vs Sonic Team? I mean we’re all Sonic fans here, we know what we’re getting ourselves into when we make a decision to purchase a game made by these two developers.
Either that or yeah, the most obvious reason being the Wii-U version looks a lot better by comparison.
Like everyone is saying the 3DS version will most likely fare better because more people already have one so they don’t need to purchase another new console just to experience the game, but I agree with @Ricardo as I too am waiting on Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2 and Super Mario World before I purchase a Wii-U.
I really can’t see Sonic lost world pushing console sales unless it was a Wii-U exclusive, and even then I can’t imagine it making that much of an impact.
I have to wonder though if the poll results would of made any difference if this game was a 3DS and PS-Vita exclusive rather than Wii-U? Maybe not but I’m curious nonetheless.
It’s purely Nintendo’s fault for poorly advertising the console. The mainstream is confused by the name, and hardcore gamers aren’t impressed by Nintendo’s unoriginal titles. Franchises like Mario took huge changes on the N64, GCN, and Wii. The Wii U is milking bland and unoriginal entries like NSMBU, Mario 3D 2, and DKC Returns 3. In the case of Pikmin 3, Nintendo takes a huge step backwards to the gameplay style of Pikmin 1. This is an issue on the 3DS as well. Paper Mario on the 3DS was demanded by Miyamoto to “play it safe” and use unoriginal assets, ideas, and characters. Mario and Luigi 4 is using the same characters, gameplay style, and world as Mario and Luigi 3 – the first 3 games were dramatically different and original, making them more interesting. Am I the only one who sees a pattern here? Shouldn’t fanboys be annoyed at Nintendo for this? How is the Wii U and future Nintendo consoles going to succeed when Nintendo lacks creativity?
While the Wii U version in my opinion looks like it’s going to be more enjoyable, with the Wii U in its current state with little exclusives worth owning the system for at the moment, I can’t see too many units of Lost World Wii U being sold, at least in launch window. When Nintendo starts pushing advertising for their console (god forbid) and getting more games out for it, then more people will be inclined to get the system, and in turn, more people may be interested in the Wii U version.
The 3DS on the other hand has established itself as the go-to handheld platform of this generation, and is home to games with a lot of hype behind them, like Project X Zone, Fire Emblem Awakening, Shin Megami Tensei IV, Kingdom Hearts 3D, and a whole crap ton of other games. The system is doing well unlike its home console counterpart, so I’m thinking more people will be picking up Lost World 3DS when it launches.
I’m getting both, but people are dreaming if they think the Wii U version will outsell the 3DS. The best we can hope for is for the game to have some legs.
That’s pretty much where I stand.
All I know is that the 3ds version appeal to me. Done and done.
@sBlast – Nintendo has stated that once the Wii U gets the games this holiday and beyond, they will start advertising the Wii U.
Nintendo said that the reason they haven’t been advertising the Wii U is because of it’s slow OS (which is no longer a problem and is going to get even faster this August) and lack of games. By December, the Wii U will have dome hot games, 3rd party and 1st party wise, giving Nintendo a reason to advertise the Wii U.
This really shows how deluded the Wii U fanbase is.
I will ultimately be getting both versions for different experiences. But I will initially be aiming for the 3DS version first. My folks have a WiiU, so I will get that version. But due to what’s been stated, I’m more inclined to buy the 3DS version since I will have that to play away from the family home during college and at the dorms… both look appealing, but I think, just like my reasons, that out of convenience that most own a 3DS– the 3DS version will sell better.
