Sega To Get Directly Involved in Archie v. Penders Mediation
The latest public records obtained by TSSZ in the ongoing efforts to settle the Archie v. Penders copyright case show things could get even more complicated before they get better.
That’s because Sega will now have direct involvement in the case. The results of a status conference held Thursday show that both plaintiff and defendant were to speak to Sega counsel.
No actual document or order has been recorded in the matter yet; we merely have a confirmation that a status conference took place late last week, and a small note in the public record on the outcome of that result. It’s not clear if the judge overseeing the case, Richard Berman, ordered the Sega conference, and no specific reason was cited for the request, but it almost certainly has to do with settling who ultimately owns what, and what may and may not infringe on Sega’s IP.
We also know a second lengthy phone conference was held between the parties and judge Berman yesterday. No transcript is available of the event yet, and for that reason, it’s not known whether counsel for Sega was on the call.
When we know more, we will pass it along.
