Sega Sammy to Sell Joypolis Theme Parks
If you want to visit Sega’s famed Joypolis indoor theme park in Japan….oh, what’s that old saying? Gotta go fast.
That’s because the latest earnings report released by Sega Sammy earlier this month, which largely went without much notice, includes plans to sell the parks.
This is all part of Sega Sammy’s much touted and publicized restructuring plan, in the works for a couple of years.
Joypolis first opened in 1994. Currently, Sega directly operates just four locations. Two are in Japan; the other two are in China. At Joypolis’s height, nine were in operation. Some of the once directly operated parks are still run by a Sega Sammy subsidiary.
The Joypolis name can live on even with a sale. The Hong Kong Joypolis is operated by a third party, for example.
