Sega Restructuring Plans: The Latest
As of right now, Irimajiri is still in as President of Sega Enterprises. However, there are more potential changes in store. Here are the facts:
- If Okawa were to take the head spot at Sega, he would step down as chairman of CSK Corporation. Taking his place would be CSK president Yoshiji Fukushima.
- Okawa would lead Sega into its Internet business venture, meaning the shift from video games to the Internet might be a tad larger than expected.
- Sega will split up its nine arcade divisions in July, more information below, and also split its video arcade operations into five separate units by October.
- The expected net loss of Sega this fiscal year is 44.9 billion yen, up from 42.8 billion the previous year.
- By the way, currently Sega stocks are down 41 percent.
- Good news, though-a report is claiming that Sega has sold 5.8 million DCs worldwide–2 million in Japan, 3.8 in North America and Europe.
Sega Asia has reported the names of the new software divisions, minus one:
Sega Soft #1 WooHoo
Sega Soft #3 Hit Maker
Sega Soft #4 Amusement Vision
Sega Soft #5 Sega Roso
Sega Soft #6 Smile Pit
Sega Soft #7 Over Works
Sega Soft #8 Sonic Team
Sega Soft #9 United Game Artists
Digital Media Wave Master
However, this is good news compared to what I’m about to tell you next–there is a hot rumor surfacing that after these planned changes are announced Friday along with fiscal earnings, there might be a buyout of Sega by Microsoft or even SONY!!!! If this happens, it will be sure to make Sega fans incredibly angry, and we will follow this rumor and whether it turns out to be fact.
