Sega, Relic Delay Company of Heroes 2
Today, Sega of America, with newly acquired RTS studio Relic Entertainment in tow, issued a press release that is tantamount to its first major move with Relic IP. Unfortunately for fans of the Company of Heroes franchise, it is not a good one.
Sega announced Company of Heroes 2, already in development by Relic before the acquisition, has been delayed to June 25th. Original expectations were that the game would be out in the first quarter of this year, which is quickly winding down. Says the release, in part:
“We hate to disappoint our fans with a later than expected date as we know they are eager to play but we feel that the additional time will help the team deliver the high quality sequel they deserve,” commented Greg Wilson, Producer of Company of Heroes 2. “However, the wait won’t be long as players will soon be able to help us test and balance multiplayer in the upcoming Closed Beta. Details will follow shortly.”
Once those closed beta details are released, we will pass along the information here. Otherwise, to see Sega delay yet another title is worthy of some concern. Of late, Sega’s promotional efforts have been virtually non-existent on delayed games. Consider Anarchy Reigns, which was delayed in the West, and then unheard of for long periods of time in 2012. The 3DS version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed also suffered from the same sort of ignorance when it got delayed to February.
