Sega releases their financial reports for the first half of FY2012
Looks like the recent restructuring and lay off Sega did earlier this year are finally paying out. Sega has released today their financial reports for the first half of 2012’s financial year and it’s shows a slight economic recovery.
It is still losing money, but it’s operating loss of ¥780 million ($9.7m/£6m/€7.6m) its a great improvement over the 6 billion loss from last year. The domestic game division is only a third of the company’s total revenue, but it has generated an increase of 5.6 per cent over the same period last year.
Sega’s consumer business generated revenues of ¥35.7 billion ($445/£276m/€346m) it’s still not enough to save the company, who’s entire revenues were down 10 per cent year-on-year to ¥136.6 billion ($1.7b/£1.1b/€1.3b), but the restructuring and cost-cutting measures led to a 2.7 per cent increase in profits to ¥3.9 billion ($48m/£30m/€27m).
It’s a slow recovery, but we’re seeing new ray of light coming for the future of Sega.
SEGA has been headed into black since 2009. It’s no big deal, the company is looking until opening new markets gaming and non gaming so they can grow and receive venture capital, they are at the point where they NO LONGER want to publish and develop packaged software.
That’s where ORBI comes into the picture.
@SegaZone
Yes, that is exactly why they chose about 5 franchises to develop and package as retail software, increasing the size of each series and the budget.
And apparently digital releases are not developed now? They just magically appear, wow! SegaZone sure is a genius.
Protip: gaming is going digital, not SEGA, they are following the market. That is why their big games are getting the retail focus, like other publishers are doing.
Well, at least it’s not as bad as before.
@SegaZone
ORBI? That a typo for ORBIS (PS4)? I wouldn’t hedge my bets on that horse if I were you.
@D. Gallo Skai Cyan.
SEGA has been quietly re-organizing all year long. They will no longer publish packaged console games effective 2/11/13.
No, not Orbis(which is fake.) ORBI.
Orbi Enterprises is an investment group formed under the direction of Kabushiki Kaisha Sega thats planning to pursue different markets, both gaming and non gaming. Before they go forward, they are preparing on splitting SegaSammy Holdings,Inc and has purchased all assets and shares of Sammy Corp as of 2010.

Of course you wouldn’t know that, nobody does cause SEGA hasn’t told anyone about it yet.
Isn’t Orbis the PS4 development kit thing that isn’t called PS4?
going only digital is the way to close down Sega.
@Amuro
Yes, Orbis is the PS4’s codename. The PS4 has a chance of not being called the PS4 due to 4 being unlucky in Japan (“four” can be written with characters that read “shi” which is also “death”).
@SegaZone
Hmm, ORBI huh? If Sega were making such big moves wouldn’t we have heard about it? Not saying it’s not true, but the gaming community is pretty nosy, you’d think someone would have picked up on it.
