Sega Master System Art Book Kickstarter Quickly Hits $100K
Bitmap Books, makers of some of the most visually engaging and critically acclaimed gaming themed art books–called visual compendium by the firm–is about to have another one with the help of Kickstarter backers across the Sega community.
Very quietly, a fundraiser was launched to get the Sega Master System visual compendium off the ground earlier this week, and fans quickly shattered its initial £50,000 goal, with still plenty of time to go far beyond.
The compendium, like others, will be overseen by a team of top professionals:
SEGA® Master System: a visual compendium is being created by an experienced and talented team of writers, designers and artists. Sam Dyer is overseeing all design and the overall art direction and project management. Steve Jarratt (Total!/Edge/Sega Power) is overseeing all copy and is the books editor. Damien McFerran (Nintendo Life/Eurogamer) is in charge of writing the features and facilitating developer interviews. Craig Stevenson is creating a suite of bespoke pixel artworks that will be used throughout the book, emulating the Master System pixel style and palette.
The work will also include a foreword by Mark Cerny, currently of Sony, and will come with a replica pair of 3D glasses.
The effort has its eyes set on an ultimate stretch goal of more than £200,000, or a bit over $265,000, and you can help get the team there with pledges beginning at just over $13 for a PDF edition until the end of the month.
