SAGE 2009: Sonic Zeta Overdrive
Sonic Zeta Overdrive is a Sonic 2 Romhack by RetroHack member Mikel. He has brought a new version of the hack to this SAGE to test and show-off.
This version is not quite a full version 3 release. It’s more like a release candidate for version 3.
All in all the booth for this game is a little bare at best. It lacks vital information regarding new features, and enhancements for this demo. However, the booth as a whole is laid out in a fine manner. It’s easily read-able and has a helpful README section for the demo.
The game is fun to play in places. Mikel has brought some nice features from a number of different Sonic games into this Hack. The main features are:
– New Level Layouts
– New Palletes
– New Music
– 11 Levels
– Sonic 2 Clone Driver
– Flying for Tails
– Super Peel-Out for Sonic
– New Level Art
The level layouts are a bit suspect in place for me. I have never been a fan of pit-falls in level design and this game includes a fair number of them. However, on a positive note the levels are challenging and the palette designs are very pleasing on the eye.
I do suggest getting a copy of a Genesis emulator and playing this game.
