SA World Rankings – A Load of Cheaters?
In my box today, I saw a response to this recent stir from Tails-R, who placed sixth in the Sand Hill rankings:
Crimson Fury (my best mate) Emailed me on Monday. He said that people are making accusations that people CHEAT on these world rankings…
These people who say this are bewildered in the fact that they don’t put the time
and effort blood, sweat, pain on the fingers (and the) agony and determination we top gamers have.
Cheats…yes there are cheats. But what do these people think?? That maybe there’s a cheat like there are in sonic1,2& 3!!
Sonic Team purposely did not put any cheats into the game to prevent not cheating in
the World Rankings. Huh, Sega (doesn’t) care if you complete the game with cheats…you wanna do that and spoil the game…then do that but its your money you’re wasting doing
that.
Now what worries most gamers like me and Crimson is the fact that developers like Datel Ltd are creating discs for the DC with storage capacity of at least 1oo cheats for each game…which make the contest for WR stupid and worthless!!
So the word is!! Do not say people cheat!! These people who are at the top agree that we don’t get the respect we deserve!!!! because of what we do!!
I might get ever more E-Mails, but we will see. I will definitely have WRs for Sand Hill tomorrow.
6/12: Late on Sunday, I E-mailed Crimson Fury asking his opinion on the stereotype he and other top World Rankings players are getting–that is, the stereotype of being a cheater. Also, I asked whether he thinks the Sonic Team would make sure SA2 was free of any bugs that might hinder a fair chance at a potential SA 2 World Rankings. Today, I received his response:
Yes indeed. lots of people do think I cheat, and send enraged e-mails to me frequently. I always respond and explain what I do to get my score/time though..which I think is an honest thing to do.
I help as many of the other players as I can, and you can even ask them yourself. Tails-r. sepherioth2019. Xmart. Flinty. JJCOOL777. Omega-red..All of them! And many more. Why? Because as you stated, it’s just not fair to other players.
I continue to do everything in my power to make these World Rankings events fair for everyone. By even going as far as to E-mail players in the bottom ranks, to see if I can help them.
I only get those insane scores and times because I don’t want to end up 200th because I went through it all “glitch free”.. And got creamed by someone less skilled than me in the game, but uses a secret of glitch and beats me. I would much rather keep it fair for everyone, and not cheat.
And finally, for Sonic Adventure 2, I am fully confident that Sega will have it relatively glitch free, and I’m hoping that the special pads that people are using will not affect the game like they have in Sonic Adventure 1.
By the way, Crimson notes that he has now placed fourth in the rankings. I’ll tell you who won tomorrow.
6/11: Recent reports claim astronomical scores in the Dust Hill world rankings. These reports call those who are achieving such high scores cheaters. However, Crimson Fury, the man with 1,051,000 points in the rankings, has come out to claim that there is no real cheating involved. Rather, the WR leaders are using technical glitches to their advantage:
I can’t stand to be called a cheater, thank you.
To get the 1 million points in Sand Hill like I did isnt “cheating.” Since the gates re-set after you go through them, it’s not “cheating.” It’s sort of using a glich to your advantage. I’m in the lead on Sand Hill with 1,510,000 points. And you know what? I spent 8 solid hours playing Sand Hill. Non-stop. Think you can do better? Be my guest. But it’s just that I can’t stand to be called a “Sand Hill cheater.”
Here’s the way I go through Sand Hill so all of you know. I go through the level and always stay on the left side. Even when I come back up through the level I stay on the left side. And when you come back up. You CAN get the gates, because they re-set long before you reach the top of Sand Hill. Also, to avoid the problem of having your game freeze. I noticed that if you keep your DC cool, it doesn’t freeze. Which means that you need to keep the air vent on the side of your DC unblocked so it can vent.
Happy? Now don’t call me a cheater. >=/
Keep in mind that long ago, the Sonic Team asked those who used special controllers in previous World Rankings to refrain from the use of them for future contests.
